“Good Food and Service”

If you like local seafood, stop at Jerry's. It's attached to the Mr. Tire and doesn't pop out as you are driving by, but it's worth looking for. The owner will start you off with samples of all sorts of things and you will not leave hungry. Crab cakes are good but not cheap. It's a family atmosphere.

“Excellent Seafood, Folksy Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

We decided to try Jerry's while visiting Calvert County based on the reviews here and were so glad that we did. The food was top-notch. We had crab cakes and a combination haddock/scallop platter - all was tremendous - however as Jerry checked in on our meal HE was not completely satisfied with the browning on the scallops - so he had another complete serving delivered! Of course we happily ate both!!

We enjoyed all the sides and accompaniments - had the Kale, Asparagus, Lettuce Wedge and the Stewed Tomatoes (I could not imagine eating stewed tomatoes, but loved these, they were very sweet and seemed to have little/no acidity). We also had cream of crab soup which was quite rich and flavored with a touch of curry. The fresh crab meat is placed on top of the soup for you to mix in after serving. The rolls were very hearty and fresh. For dessert we had Banana Cream Pie which had plenty of banana slices in the sweet filling that contrasted nicely with the graham cracker crust.

Please note that as first time visitors we were given samples of everything we asked about, including the fried haddock, the tomatoes, the kale, and both of Jerry's crab soup bases. This was prior to any order being taken.

The food was wonderful and the experience was fun. This is not pretentious dining - Jerry and his son circulate the dining room checking on the guests and often engaging in conversation and banter. It is a folksy style that probably harkens to an earlier, less impersonal time, but it is very genuine. You are kind of made to feel like an old friend.

(I do want to comment on one of the other reviews below. I have a very sensitive nose and I did not find that there was any sort of offensive odor in the parking lot what-so-ever. If you want to try some top quality seafood in a unique setting please do not let that review put you off).

“Bad smell emanating”

There is no bar, you have to stand outside or in a cramped box to wait for table, no reservations, and a terrible stench of sewage as you wait outside. awful

“Unique”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

sort of quirky; you are surrounded by caricatures of customers staring from the walls, ambience is strange (but comfy), BUT, the service is off the charts good and the food? It will make you go back. The menu is short but what is on there is fresh, exceptionally well prepared, and fairly priced. You won't go back for ambience but you will return for the welcoming family and the amazing food-go early or stand around.

“What seafood should be!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2014

This tiny eatery is located on Route 4 in Prince Frederick, Maryland and is open Tuesday through Sunday. Once you enter their doors you are immediately greeted by Jerry and/or one of his family members; and not to worry, if Jerry doesn’t greet you at the door, he certainly will be by your table to talk to you and offer you a free sample of one of his tasty treats. This is the unique friendliness that this restaurant has to offer every one of it’s customers who sometimes wait up to an hour to get one of approximately 20 tables. A little on the expensive side, but as they say, “You definitely get what you pay for”. The food here – probably 95% is seafood – is some of, if not the best you are going to find anywhere around. Even though I have lived in Southern Maryland most of my life, I am definitely NOT a seafood lover. Jerry has made me a convert. His fried Halibut is to die for. But, his specialty has to be his Southern Maryland Crab Cake. They come in four sizes, Regular, Junior, Senior, and my son’s favorite - the 1-pound Granddad that comes with four sides. Speaking of sides, if you are looking to put a smile on your face, order the Seasoned Kale, Cole Slaw, and Stewed Tomatoes. All three are VERY good and made fresh daily.

Like I said, it is a little expensive and you may have to wait to get in but it will definitely be worth it. Moreover, if you happen to be there on one of the nights he is serving his homemade hush puppies … Lucky You!!!!
