Description: MoCo's Founding Farmers is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU. serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on scratch-cooking. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn't mean we know every farm, and that doesn't mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain. However, it does mean that we are working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We're serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

“Interesting, Diverse Menu with an Eclectic Drink Menu”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We started at the bar with a couple drinks from their "Farmacy" menu. It was definitely a treat to watch them prepare the drink - WOW, the amount of liquids they put into a concoction was mind boggling! The drinks had a decent taste to them, didn't notice much alcohol though, which was slightly disappointing.

What we really found disappointing was the host staff, they weren't very good at all. We were early for our reservation and decided to sit at the bar and were literally right next to the hostess stand and advised them of this, but they still skipped over us when our table was ready. THey quickly accomodated, but that was after we asked when we would be seated. The first two people we asked didn't seem interested and the gentleman who took us to our table seemed very disinterested in being at work that day.

The server that waited on us at our table made up for that though, she was AMAZING! Really good, attentive and had a great memory!

The menu was a treat! We really enjoyed all the various styles of food and much of it looked so very tasty! The items we chose were prepared nicely. Salad dressing is made in-house, which is what we prefer. Their sherry vinaigrette was nice, but their clinatro-lime vinaigrette was wayyyy too oily. Salad was prepared nicely and was very fresh.

Their veggie that was carrots with pearl onions and it looked and sounded amazing! I was quite disappointed that it was served cold though - that was a little odd and clashed slightly with the other flavors/textures and prep styles on my plate. It would have been nice to know aheda of time this was a cold side dish.

Dessert was their apple pie. The vanilla bean ice cream was AMAZING! The apple pie was just ok. The apples were not very crunchy and rather pliable and rubbery. Topping was ok, just stale tasting.

Ovreall it was a very nice experience though. I know I touched on more negatives than positives, but we did enjoy it. I just feel that for a "foodie" type place with "foodie" type prices, things should be a little better.

We would DEFINITELY eat here again and give it another try!!

“Food was good, but drinks were dismal”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

We've been to the Founding Farmers in DC and found the food to not be very good so we were pleasantly surprised when we tried the newer location in Maryland. The food was very tasty (we had a hamburger with feta cheese and salmon). The drinks were disappointing. My husband and I both ordered mixed drinks. And his drink was served in a lowball glass and was less than half full. Mine was literally overflowing with ice. And the drinks were each $12. I hope the restaurant can improve on this in the future. The waitress provided good service and the was ambiance nice.

“Down-to earth elegance, concious offerings, more manageable setting than the downtown DC location”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

I am so happy that Founding Farmers has opened a new location in Potomac! While featuring the same outstanding menu (something beautiful for the squeakiest vegan right over to the knuckle-draggin'est carnivore and everyone in between) and artful setting as the downtown location, this one skips the poor parking options, long, crowded wait and decibel levels that make the downtown location problematic at times.

The food is conciously prepared, the dining room is comfortable and beautiful, the wait staff is cordial, knowledgeable and attentive, even at brunch, a meal that is much more demanding of the kitchen and wait staff.

Even at the best restaurant, the occasional mistake is inevitable, and AS with people, you can learn a lot about a restaurant by how it handles the mistakes. In that department, this restaurant distinguishes itself. When a meat-containing salad was mistakenly delivered to my vegetarian husband, the error was instantly rectified, both of our meals were comped, and the chef came out to apologize in person. This is how the restaurant treats its non-regular, non-vip guests. What a refreshing difference from the snitty, snubby, stuffy service at Old Angler's! Just sayin'.

I would bring any guest to this place with complete confidence. It is certainly the best option for miles around, out here in Potomac. We have been there a few times now and will certainly be back!

“Decent Food, Horrible Service”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

A group of seven of us went to Founding Farmers in Potomac on a Wed night and it was fairly crowded. The decor was pretty nice, but the average age of the customers is about fifty. We're in our early thirties so we felt a little out of place. I had the reuben sandwich, which was pretty good. Price is a little on the high side for what you get, but wasn't totally outrageous. Our waitress was really slow and not that attentive. When it came to split the check, we wrote down how we wanted it split, and she screwed that up. I would recommend management to better train their employees because I've heard from others that the service isn't that great here.
