Scotland Island Lodge
Reviewed May 16, 2008

Right from the start this is a great experience. How many places bother to greet you at the ferry with offers to help with luggage and to lead you the (short) distance to the lodge. Rosemary and Colin have something unique here, Sumptuous, tasteful accomodation combined with gourmet standard food. All this and the charm of Pittwater as well. Cannot rate this place high enough, we will return.

After three weeks of travel ending up in the frantic hustle and bustle of Sydney we needed to chill out in natural surroundings prior to our return to the UK.A chance newspaper article resulted in our visit to this splendid Island retreat only a 35 -40 min. drive from Sydney. Imagine a romantic water taxi that whisks you out to this beautiful location only 5 minutes off Church Point, where we left our car. No cars or made up roads on the Island.
We were met by Rosemary and Colin Who looked after us with a superb knack of being there when we needed help but absent when we needed to relax after stimulating walks around the Island. The Lodge has a very relaxing feel about it with a very comfortable, private first floor area for readng or TV
If you eat in the food is sumptious, the breakfasts a real experience of Home produce
The last day will be remembered until we go back, waking up to the sound of Kookaburras then a ferry down the Hawksberry river for lunch at Cottage Point at the waters edge watching the water planes land bringing guests from Sydney, at sunset over gin and tonics we really felt at peace with the world getting prepared for life back in the metropolis which seemed a million miles away

We stayed at Scotland Island Lodge for a long weekend in August and wish we could have stayed longer. It is a fabulous B&B hideaway on the North Eastern side of the island, owned and run by Colin and Rosemary. Scotland Island Lodge has got three rooms; a king size ensuite, and a queen and twin rooms which share a bathroom - ideal for a family. Rosemary is passionate about cooking; her big English breakfasts are simply to die for.

Scotland Island is in the stunning Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Pittwater (north of Sydney) - less than an hour from the centre of Sydney. The whole area is home to superb waterways, wharves, boatsheds, ferries, and secluded beaches. The native bushland contains rainforest, rivers, creeks, waterfalls, sandstone headlands and a wonderful collection of Aboriginal rock art. It is an island only accessible by boat or ferry. There are plenty of fantastic walks on the island or in the nearby National Park. There are so many fantastic things about Scotland Island, you'll just have to experience them for yourself - go on treat yourself !!

Scotland Island is located in Pittwater with extensive views over the Kuringai National Park. We arrived at Church Point within 60 minutes of leaving Sydney Airport, courtesy of Collaroy Airport Services. Access to Scotland Island is via either the ferry or water taxi. We took the ferry which was a mini cruise of the southern end of Pittwater. Pittwater took our breath away and we fell in love with Scotland Island, at first sight, with its rustic charm, laid back lifestyle of yesteryears and islanders who passed us by with friendly greetings. We were enchanted when we caught sight of Scotland Island Lodge and were made very welcome by our hosts Colin and Rosemary Haskell. A lovely vase of island flowers greeted us in our room which had its own en-suite bathroom. The room was spacious and clean with a little sitting area for extra privacy – although there was a cosy guest lounge available for our use. Tea-making facilities were accompanied by little extra touches such as a jar of home-made cookies which were so delicious that we finished the lot in one go as soon as we arrived! We sat outside in a delightful garden for lunch and ate delicious sandwiches and cake that Rosemary had made for us and later, after a walk around the island breathing in its clean fresh air, we arrived back to a wonderful gourmet dinner prepared by Rosemary. Rosemary is passionate about her cooking and she uses home-grown ingredients (when seasons allow) such as vegetables and herbs, courtesy of Colin who works very hard on their produce patch! Rosemary’s desserts were mouth-watering and even though we were full after the generous portions of appetizers and main course, the desserts were extremely hard to resist! After a good night’s sleep induced by the clean air, incredible peace and darkness on the island we woke refreshed to the smell of home-baked bread. Breakfast was sumptuous and served on the verandah with its lovely views and sounds of nature. Rosemary and Colin are the perfect hosts. If we were looking for privacy, we were left discreetly to our own devices, but when we wished to have a friendly chat, Rosemary and Colin took time off their busy schedules to chat with us. They are extremely well travelled and have had many years of experience running award winning bed and breakfasts. There were many activities available in the locality such as swimming and kayaking in Pittwater, trekking in the beautiful Kuringai National Park, with a packed lunch, exploring the many wonderful northern beaches and cruising on the Hawkesbury. We could be as idle or active as we wished! Although there are no cars on the island, with the exception of emergency and community services and a few local tradesmen, the regular ferry service or water taxi took us over to Church Point where local taxis or the public transport service took us wherever we wanted to go. Sydney is a mere 27 kilometres away. We were never bored. We stayed for four nights at Scotland Island Lodge and have been back several times. We are hoping to go back again to refresh our bodies, mind and senses!

Victoria, British Columbia was receiving record winter rain fall & Sydney had yet to be discovered, "by Dave & Diane that is."
The Spectacular City proved to be a haven of beautiful Architecture and Natural History, which we explored for three days.
We had no idea, at that moment, that we were only one hour away from our next accommodation, with Rosemary & Colin at Scotland Island Lodge.
The Ferry trip from church point to the lodge was a delight & the friendly locals made us welcome right away.
From the moment that we stepped inside the Lodge, we knew that we had found something really special. Our hosts had attended to every detail of our comfort, including our delightful King size en-suite bedroom with fresh fruit and snacks at our fingertips often found ourselves just relaxing in our room, with a cooling breeze through the large screened windows, with just the sound of bird calls and "crack " of sails changing tack.
The gourmet meals & delightful company of our much travelled hosts, made each day special while the local beaches, parks & Sydney were still readily accessible.
Although we had originally booked for just three days, we were so happy and well looked after, that we extended our stay to 14 days will always go back to Scotland Island Lodge and recommend any friend or family to stay with Rosemary & Colin.
They are truly the best ever.

My wife, 2 children and I stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Colin and Rosemary were accomodating and gracious hosts, going out of their way to please and provide. The lodge was impecably clean, and very tastful. The food provided was delicoius, and their company delightful. Bravo on continuing the warm memories of my childhood Island!
