We came to Oxford because we like the town and LOVE the food at Popes Tavern. We thought it would be nice to stay at the inn since we had not before. We stayed in the Choptank Room.
Room was okay but lots of little nits. Floor was not thoroughly vacuumed (found little bits of paper and a couple of dead flies), bathroom had body lotion and conditioner but no shampoo, old window screens stacked against the wall half behind the dresser but in plain sight, telephone jack box cover off and lying on the floor, only one robe hanging on the rack for two guests. The windows were so smudged you could barely see out of them when the sun hit at the right angle, but they may be super old and that may just be one of the downfalls on antique glass.
On the plus side, robe and towels were super cushy, window AC unit worked great, room was quiet, and there was a nice selection of books and magazines on the bedside table, which was a nice touch. We had to take a conference call at breakfast time, which is 8:30, but we were able to bring our breakfast up to the room. It, of course, was delicious. Fresh from the oven scones and banana walnut bread and in-season fruit, with butter and jam, orange juice and coffee. Very pleasant.
This could be a lovely place to stay, but it had that feel of being somewhat neglected. I hope the owners see this and make a little effort to spruce up their innkeeping game, because this is a lovely property with a fabulous restaurant.
