“Okay stay, but guessing the owners are tired of being innkeepers”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2011

We came to Oxford because we like the town and LOVE the food at Popes Tavern. We thought it would be nice to stay at the inn since we had not before. We stayed in the Choptank Room.

Room was okay but lots of little nits. Floor was not thoroughly vacuumed (found little bits of paper and a couple of dead flies), bathroom had body lotion and conditioner but no shampoo, old window screens stacked against the wall half behind the dresser but in plain sight, telephone jack box cover off and lying on the floor, only one robe hanging on the rack for two guests. The windows were so smudged you could barely see out of them when the sun hit at the right angle, but they may be super old and that may just be one of the downfalls on antique glass.

On the plus side, robe and towels were super cushy, window AC unit worked great, room was quiet, and there was a nice selection of books and magazines on the bedside table, which was a nice touch. We had to take a conference call at breakfast time, which is 8:30, but we were able to bring our breakfast up to the room. It, of course, was delicious. Fresh from the oven scones and banana walnut bread and in-season fruit, with butter and jam, orange juice and coffee. Very pleasant.

This could be a lovely place to stay, but it had that feel of being somewhat neglected. I hope the owners see this and make a little effort to spruce up their innkeeping game, because this is a lovely property with a fabulous restaurant.

The Oxford Inn is a lovely small inn with an absolutely fabulous restaurant in a small, very historic town with water, water everywhere. The rooms are wonderful, the staff delightful, and the food and drink perfect any time of the year. The co-proprietor/chef (Lisa) cooks like an angel and the co-proprietor/manager (Dan) really knows his wines and single malts. After 30+ years of regular travel all over the Eastern Shore, we found this place a few years ago. We can hardly wait to get back every time we must leave to return to the "real" world across the bridge. You can sail here or you can drive here, but you will love it.

The Oxford Inn is a perfect place for a weekend get-away to decompress from city life. The Inn's owners - Lisa and Dan - are welcoming hosts and made us feel like regulars. Oxford is a charming, sleepy little town -- and just a ferry ride away from St. Michaels, if you're looking for a little more action, but be sure to return to the Oxford Inn for dinner at Pope's Tavern where you can enjoy an exquisite meal and superb service in their casual, but elegant, European-style dining room.

My wife and I visited Oxford and the Oxford Inn for our 27th wedding anniversary. We were exceptionally satisfied with the location, decor, food, and genuine hospitality displayed by all of the staff. Oxford provided a peaceful and charming base station halfway between St. Michaels (via bike and ferry) and Easton (15 minute car ride). They let us park our bikes in a shed. The meal at Pope's was superb, as were both breakfasts. On Sunday morning they let you order off of the breakfast menu. For our second night, the wait staff helped us find a quality restaurant in Easton. The rooms are nicely appointed with antiques, coffee service, lots of magzines. The atmosphere is enhanced by the role the restaurant serves as a gathering place for local residents, Saturday morning men's breakfast club, Sunday morning after church brunch crowd. While visiting Oxford, check out the waterfront park and the Scottish Highland's Creamery (500+ ice cream flavors!). We will recommend the Oxford Inn to all of our friends. Compared to what you might pay for a room and continental breakfast at a commercial motel, the overall value of staying at the Oxford Inn is a bargain.

I found out about this B&B from TripAdvisor, and thought it would be the perfect place for our 2nd anniversary celebration. It was. The owners were right on site and very accommodating. The room was neat and clean, with a view of the town creek. We were able to watch the beautiful sun rise from the comfort of our own room.

The food at Pope's Tavern was out of this world. We attended a wine pairing dinner with O.Fournier wines. Just wonderful. For breakfast, they served homemade muffins and scones, along with fresh fruit and coffee. I would love to get the recipes for the muffins and scones - they were delicious!

The town itself was so picturesque and tranquil. A wonderful small town to stroll around, admiring the historic houses and views of the water. Each street ends with a park bench where you can sit and gaze out at the river.

There are no tv's in the rooms, so if you need some other diversions aside from the scenery, bring your laptop. There is a tv in the bar area.

We hope to return to this inn and town soon!

  • Liked — The food at the restaurant.
  • Disliked — The mattress was a bit too firm.

This is a great place to stay in one of the loveliest small towns on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The innkeepers are gracious and welcome you at the door. And who would expect a five-star restaurant in such a small, quaint town. There's nothing better than a dinner at the inn, sitting on the porch on a warm evening, chatting with other guests and local people (who love the place!), and then walking up the stairs to your bed. It's a great place!

Room was good but when we arrived there was no sign of the innkeeper. We were assisted by one of the restaurant staff who was bewildered by our need to pay using CASH! No one has ever paid cash before we were told...ok fair enough but when she went to the back room to speak to the innkeeper she was told we needed to pay up front...ok fair enough again. However not once during this whole process did the innkeeper even bother to show their face or say hello. Total lack of respect for your guest even if it was for one evening. I walked into the dining area of their restaurant later hoping to get some sort of communication from anyone but it appeared to me that I was more of an annoyance rather than a guest. I understand you might be busy preparing for your evening meals but a simple hello and some information on the area would have been nice. Has to be the worst experience socially I've ever had from a BB side of things. You expect this disregard from a cheap hotel but not from a BB. Recommend only if have have to use for passing through.

  • Liked — Nice clean room
  • Disliked — Check-in and poor communication from the innkeeper
