Description: Once the home of Robert Morris who gained fame as "Financier of the Revolution". General and later President George Washington was a close friend and visited Robert Morris often. In more recent times author James Michener outlined his famous novel, Chesapeake here and fell in love with our renowned crab cakes. Now the Eastern Shore's most unique historic restaurant with rooms under celebrity Chef Proprietor, Mark Salter and Ian Fleming.Enter the Inn and step back 300 years: a pristine yet historic interior welcomes with timber beams, panelled walls and open fires in the cooler months. Through to Salter's Tavern featuring historic red brick walls and old slate floors, with magnificent fires in the cooler months and offering casual outside dining on our Terraces and Veranda during balmy warm summers. This is a truly historic Inn, cosy with a natural patina running through. Friendly, great cuisine and understated professional service.

Best crab cake in area. Delicious dinner on porch. Breakfast in tavern, also tasty with discount for Sandaway guests. Worth a visit.

“Robert Morris Inn --Restored & A Unique Experience”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

The Inn is located in Oxford, a very unique town near St. Michaels. As you go through town visitors notice the one gas station that says "Gas". The Inn itself is restored and is about one block from the water, where the Oxford-Bellvue Pedestrian Ferry loads and disembarks passengers. This is a huge restaurant and is air conditioned. Visitors can sleep overnight upstairs and eat downstairs. The food is first rate in the dining rooms. The menu choices are unique. For example, our entrée was a chicken breast with grilled asparagus, mashed potatoes, tomato fondue, and a brown sauce that tasted faintly like coffee. These last two additions on the plate were used as sauces for the potatoes and chicken. Then the dessert---a huge meringue nest with cream and berries! Staff and service was great. They don't play music so you can enjoy a conversation. This is worth your time if you are in the area.

“Classic Chesapeake”
Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

Ambiance was lovely in this quaint Inn. Service was impeccable and the were very eager to please. Mezzo platter to start was very tasty and plenty foe two to share. Husband had the steak salad which was crisp and loaded with perfectly cooked meat. Skate dinner was good (although I discovered I don't really like skate) and served with fresh sautéed garlic spinach and a yummy potato gratin. For dessert we selected the special cake with raspberry coulis. When the waitress asked, we told her the cake was dry and she quickly offered to bring us something else. We told her the flavors were lovely so we would eat it anyway. Proprietors Dan and Lisa (the chef) were very friendly and fu of fun and made us feel right at home. We will be back!

Dear Darla B
We understood this review was meant for Lisa and Dan at the Oxford Inn and asked Tripadvisor to move it as it is pretty obvious. However in their wisdom they have decided it belongs to us. Sorry we did try. If you ask to have it removed, as the contributor, I think they might listen.
