We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Pope's Tavern this evening. Ingredients were very fresh and simply prepared with attention and solid cooking technique. Slices of green tomato tempura sandwiched with a light crab salad was especially lovely. There was a local softshell crab special that we didn't get, but it looked absolutely amazing going by. Good wine list with some nice selections by the glass. Dining room is charming with windows overlooking the street and docks, but I'll bet it can get a little noisy (wood floor and nothing much to dampen the sound).

Oxford is a charming little town, and Pope's Tavern is a great spot. We'll definitely be back!

A delightful restaurant on the Eastern shores of Chesapeake Bay. Full of homely charms and attentive service. The locally-caught crab alone was worth our trip from London, and the steak was sublime...

Lisa's cooking and Dan's wine cellar make this restaurant a 'must-visit' destination. Make sure you request the Expresso Martini!

Pope's Tavern is part of the Oxford Inn B&B. We had dinner there on a grey, windy evening last week, and were stunned at the warmth, the charm, the service, and above-all the food! The hosts could not have been more gracious in welcoming our last-minute party of 10. We had just arrived on our sailboats at the marina and found that everything appeared to be closed in Oxford except for two places. The innkeeper offered to pick us up from the marina since it was about a mile away, and we were already chilled to the bone from sailing across the Chesapeake. Five minutes later we were seated in the wonderful period dining room of the tavern, where the service (French style) could not have been more friendly and efficient. The New American menu, even in the off-season, was out of this world. The cook has obviously trained in France. Many of us ordered the Bison Steak with sweet potato gnochhi and grilled asparagus which was done PERFECTLY!. The lobster bisque went straight to our hearts. And we all left room for some delicious desserts, including brandied pear bread pudding and choclate gelato. We stayed at the bar afterwards for a glass of port and it was like visiting with family, everyone was so friendly. I can't wait to come back.
