“A lot going for it, but needs a cleaning”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

In most respects, this hotel was a very good deal for the money. We paid 110 after tax on a Saturday for a room with a balcony facing the ocean. The room was spacious with a couch, nice tv, ironing board, microwave and fridge. The location was just before the beginning of the boardwalk, which is pretty ideal because you can walk the boardwalk but don't have people walking in front of your room all the time. There was also a continental breakfast which was pretty weak, but given the room price and other amenities was fine by me. The thing that killed this place was the cleanliness. It was neat, but there were hairs on both the sheets and even in my bath towel. There were also little black specks of something on the sheets, a dead insect in the tub, and it looked like they hadn't vacuumed out the area under the sink in a very long time (lots of grime plainly visable when sitting on the toilet that the cleaners probably did not notice standing up). This didn't kill the trip for us since we are not super fussy about that sort of thing but could easily be a killer for lots of people. I would suggest that they maybe cut some of the other amenities in exchange for some training for the cleaning staff (or financial incentives for them). Cleanliness is not a good place to cut corners. But man, it was a great view...

I have to agree with Kristina - "The Only Good Thing Was The View" Beds were hard as rocks and the springs came through. My husband and I accually woke feeling like someone beat us. When you called to speak to management, all they did was laugh and say that yes all the beds in other rooms are the same. "After all we bought them from the the same place" The air conditioner had mold all over it and when you turned in on it spelled like urine. There were beer bottle caps under the filthy couch (had stains all over the cushions) and balcony. We asked for our money back and mangement just laughed again. Unfortunely we could not find anywhere else to stay because other places were full or had a 3-day minimum so we were stuck there. We took the mattress off the pull out sofa and put in on the bed so that we could talerate the next two days. The Continental breakfast sucked and you had to go to another building to get it. Worst experience ever. I will be letting the BBB know this and the Chamber of Commerce in OC. Someone needs to address this!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else no matter the cost or bring your own mattress and cleaning supplies.

Good room, clean (except behind sofa which we had to move so we saw candy wrappers & accumulated dust), with nice view of the ocean. Short stay was OK with them...some hotels here won't book for 1 or 2 nights. Can book online - a plus or direct with the hotel. Discounts for various organizations. Changes were easily accommodated by desk staff. Complementary continental breakfast was simple but adequate. Hey, It's not the Hampton Inn. It was mid-April so staff was understandably getting hotel ready for summer beach season. Were somewhat noisy right under our balcony, talking very loudly while resurfacing deck around their pool.

This is a clean and affordable place with a great location in Ocean City. I had two oceanfront suites for a great price. My son and I have been coming here since he was two and he will be 15 this year and the hotel manger still remembers us. The location on the beach, near the carnival and other activities makes it the perfect location for family fun.

Room Tip: The 4th and 3rd floor have connecting suites for a great family atmosphere.

Our stay was in an ocean front room on the second floor, nice, but I'd want to go higher (There are five floors.). The room and bathroom were clean and kept that way by the hardworking staff. The sliding glass door to the balcony had no screen door, a shame because the sound of the ocean at night was preferable to the loud rumbling of the through-the-wall air conditioner. The A/C admittedly did keep the room cool. We finally cracked the door a bit to escape the artificial noise; no problem with mosquitos. The "climb-around or crawl-under" partitions on our balcony made us a little uneasy; why don't the partitions extend low enough or out enough to keep our neighbors from possibly coming over to "visit"?

Indoor heated pool was very nice as was outdoor pool. If you have a first floor room you and the outdoor pool users can get to know each other; take a first floor room only to avoid a room in the streetside annex with the parking lot view.

The "free continental breakfast" offered in the office lobby is absolutely dreadful; ghastly plastic wrapped bagels and muffins that taste like sweetened cardboard, bad coffee and so-so juice. Rodeway should abandon this "perk" or expend just a little effort to put out better food. Indeed, why not just include a free voucher, say, $3 per guest at the McDonald's across the road for breakfast items that are far more edible( We stayed at a HoJo's in St. George UT that had multiple cereal choices, oatmeal packets, fresh fruit, bread and English muffins for toasting plus decent coffee, Twinings tea and juice in a small but pleasant breakfast room, all at a most reasonable room rate.).

Room Tip: Again, get an oceanfront room as high as possible. Stay somewhere else if the first floor and annex...

We stay down in Ocean City quite a bit for nighttime entertainment, and finding a clean and affordable place is always like finding a needle in a haystack. $90 total for a one night Saturday stay at this time of year usually puts you in a roach motel. Both front desk clerks that I iteracted with were knowledgeable and friendly. The room wasn't the grandest in the land, but it had all of the usual amenities that you expect to find at this rating level. Everything was clean and in working order, the bed was comfortable, and surprisingly, the location was quiet, I thought it would be noisier. The hotel is right on the beach with beach access, and has two pools. Very impressed with the facility for the price.

Room Tip: Oceanfront on the first floor does not provide a view of the water due to dunes in the way
