“Great Place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

Recommended by my sister who goes to O.C. several x's a year (this was our first time) -- we loved it! The view was fantastic, the wait staff was great, the food was very good! We should have gone back there again but instead went someplace else (where we could only compare to BJ's and wish we had been at BJ's instead!).

“A Prime Spot Not A Prime Restaurant”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

BJ's starts out as a real teaser. Great parking, excellent entryway with plenty of lights. A full parking lot usually means a great place to eat. But once inside, all bets are off. The seating is tight and uncomfortable. The bartenders (mixologist) way too busy chatting to customers to service people waiting for a drink. We waited almost an hour for seating (we were at OC between the 20th and the 22nd of October which is low season and many places were closed for the season and so everyone's choices are severely limited). The chairs really do not compliment the table. The tables are small and cramped. All but one person ordered a fish entree as this was a sea food restaurant. All the seafood dishes were such a disappointment. Mostly overcooked. The only person happy with their meal was the one who ordered a steak. Go figure that in a seafood restaurant the beef is better than the seafood.
In the middle of all of this was a local band playing that was really more suited for a bar than a restaurant. I was sorely unimpressed with BJ's.

“Excellent and fresh food, courteous and efficient serving staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

Having visited Phillips so many times and other restaurants in the OC and Delaware area, and was greatly disappointed with quality of food more than service, it was a wonderful surprise to recently dine at BJ's bayside. View of Bay seeing ducks was a pleasure. I don't need sterile and shiny ultra modern tables, furniture etc. as long the food is great, prices are reasonable. I would glady dine at BJ's again.

“Good food, service & atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

Our party was 4 adults and 3 children. Went on a Friday evening, off season. The place was very full but we had no wait. They were very decorated for Halloween and the kids loved it. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. We were seated with a view of the bay and sunset. It was lovely. We all had sandwiches and they were delicious and reasonably priced. The menu prices for the entrees seemed a bit pricey, but those we saw delivered to tables around us looked and smelled great. It was during playoff season and there were enough TVs around so we could keep track of developments but not be distracted by them. We will definately visit BJ's again when we visit OC.

“Average OC spot for lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

Our group of six chose this restaurant for lunch while visiting OC for our annual fall getaway.
The hostess was trying to do a us a favor by sitting us at a corner table (inside) right next to the windows over looking the bay. It was a nice spot but was completely over-run with flies. I know that this happens in the fall as these pesky *astards try to get out of the cold, but there were hundreds. We moved to a table away from the corner and that seemed to make a huge difference as we had a couple try to join us. The beers were cold and it was nice to have LandShark on tap, not a lot of places do. I had their crab cake BLT which was nicely put together with a texas toast type of bread whicj kept it from being too soggy. The crab cake didn't have enough old bay in the mix for me but they did provide a shaker with old bay seasoning so that was no big issue. The fries served with my sandwich were just horrible, soggy and warm and very dark, like the vat was due for a serious oil change.
Overall, the rest of the group enjoyed the lunches, my wife got the seafood salad and really liked it, her sister got the seafood salad on a wrap and could only finish half.
We go to OC a couple times a year, I may have to give them a second chance.
