We arrived on a Sunday about an hour before check-in and our room was not ready, so we registered and the front desk clerk took my cell number and said she'd call when the room was ready. So, we went and found chairs on their sandy beach area and watched the boats go by.
Our room was ready around 3:30 and the desk clerk did apologize for it taking so long, but it really wasn't a problem for us...loved taking in the views while waiting.
We were staying in an Inlet Suite, which was comfortable although the furnishings were a little on the dated side. The living area consisted of a table and chairs, two end tables with lamps, a sofa, a chair & ottoman, TV, phone and mid-size refrigerator with freezer & microwave and a large mirror which came in handy using on the way out the door. Between the living area and bedroom is a closet with a luggage stand as well as a fairly small bathroom square feet wise, although the tub/shower was full size and there was a large mirror with a shelf underneath that lined one entire wall, so there was plenty of room for toiletries and such. There was a wall mounted hair dryer. There were plenty of towels although the bath towels were fairly small. The only real complaints with the bathroom area is it was really hard to get a constant temperature while using the shower...it would fluctuate between scalding hot to freezing cold and took several minutes to get it just right and then at times it would change temp again without any tampering with the faucet. And, there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom either. The bedroom was roomy with two double beds which I thought were rather large and very comfortable as well as 4 large fluffy pillows which made for a good night sleep. There is also two comfy chairs and a large dresser in the bedroom and another TV as well. The only complaint I have with the bedroom is they have one full wall of windows that are covered with blinds that really don't shut out the light and so even in the dead of night there is a lot of light infiltrating from the outside. Also, there is a wall switch as soon as you enter the suite and a wall switch as soon as you enter the bedroom which I presumed to be for the lights, but they were for the TV's and once those switches are turned off the TV's must be reprogrammed again...I had no idea how to do it, so had to get housekeeping to do it a few times and they didn't seem to have a problem with assisting me.
Outside our suite are two rocking chairs facing the Inlet to sit and just enjoy the beautiful view. The grounds as well as the rooms were very well kept and the staff was very accommodating. We really enjoyed their sandy beach area that had picnic tables, free standing charcoal grills, hammocks and colorful heavy duty plastic Adirondack Style chairs scattered about. They also have a play castle for the youngsters and those young at heart and they also have an outdoor pool with a large sun deck surrounding it.
The location is excellent right on the Inlet and Bay and sandwiched between Inlet Park and Sunset Park with their own pier and a place to rent jet skis as well. And across the street is Trimper Amusement Park and Inlet Village with several little quaint shops and it's only a short walk to the beginning of the Boardwalk.
We really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay again or suggest it to others. You just have to come with the mindset that this is not a 5 star hotel, but rather a nice, clean, older beach motel. And, of all the places I've stayed in OC, I've never met so many other guests who were so nice and very talkative and most were all regulars who have been staying at Oceanic for years...they also contributed to making our stay at Oceanic so memorable!
