I have stayed at a number of Boardwalk hotels in Ocean City MD and the Commander is a nice hotel. If you are looking for ultra modern and over-sized rooms, try someplace else. We stayed in an Ocean Front over looking the boardwalk. Good location, good view, nice room. The room has 2 smallish double beds and a double couch that opens. We were only 2 people so the room was of adequate size (although we slept in different beds as it was more comfortable that way). The room sleeps 6 but I would not try that with 6 adults and lots of luggage. The full sized refrigerator was nice to have as was the Microwave and counter top, good for bringing in take-out and breakfast but not for cooking. The hotel was not full and the service was good. We had an issue with a noisy AC unit and they sent someone to fix it quickly. All of the staff always was friendly and said hello when we encountered them. The Outdoor pool was nice and clean. We did not use the restaurant (Breakfast) or the pool bar/grill. We passed by the small indoor pool, again it looked clean but it is small. Parking was onsite but, they also have off site when the hotel is busy. We did not have any issues parking. It is a little pricy but it was in high season and we wanted a ocean front room. We would go back on a future trip.

Room Tip: Don't try to put 6 adults in the ocean front room that sleeps 6 - it would be crowded.

I'll get right to the point. I, we were very unsatisfied and will never go back again,
Went there for our 30 year wedding anniversery and it was the worst ever. Checked in like we were supposed to, took the elevator upstairs and the room was terrible. The room was not clean, the bed looked like it was just thrown togther and the ceiling which was once white seemed to be stained or had fungus growing everywhere. We have stayed in beachside hotels in many countries as well as California and I have to say this hotel didn't rate anywhere close to the others. Even though we paid what we did for the room we decided to check out two hours later and return back to Virginia the same day. What an anniversery. I made it up to her the next day with two dzen roses, a nice dinner in Washington DC and a request for another 30 years.
I'd think twice about staying if I were anyone else who has never been there.

Room Tip: Pick a Hotel down the Boardwalk. You can do better

It was very dim in the room, even with the lights turned on, and the couch was plastic. We had stayed in the suite, which was barely a suite. It had 2 tv from a while ago, 2 small beds, a mini kitchen, and a plastic couch. the hallways smelled weird too, i was on floor 2 in room 151

Just came back from a week stay in the oceanfront room at the commander hotel and id say its a mediocre room. It could definitly use some updating for the price. Good things are... the location, pool, and the employees were very friendly (with the exceptiion of the lady at front desk). Bad things were... Our room wasnt as clean as Id like it to be, hair in bathroom everywhere and We left our used glasses on the counter and housekeeping just placed them back in the cabinet with drink remains in them. Also the air condition was so loud it kept us up most of the night. After I complained about the unit they replaced it so I had to give them points there. Wouldnt mind staying again but maybe in an upgraded room :)

Room Tip: The more you pay the better the quality

Just came back from a one nights stay at the Commander Hotel. We stayed in the Cabanas overlooking the pool. Unfortunately our room overlooked a dirty roof of the pool bar. I cannot complain to much since they did accomadate us for just one night when they do have a two night minimum. Our room was large and did suit us well for the five of us. The bathroom was clean and large. The kitchen was not to well equipped but who wants to cook when there is great seafood all around the city. Unfortunately the guests before us left cheese wrappers in one of the cupboards and the maid must have missed them.I was dissappointed that the Skipjack Grill was not open for lunch. It would be so nice to sit there and overlook the beach and have some lunch. I was directed to the pool bar but the menu did not appeal to me. All in all it is a good place for families. I just wish there were not so many smokers in Ocean City.

We stayed in one of the oceanfront suites, room 752. Check in was fast. However,I was a little taken back at first by the attitude of one of the front desk employees, but the next day she was much friendlier. The room was clean and the view was awesome. Pictures just can't do it justice. We swam in the indoor pool after dark, which was pretty small. The location was great, nothing beats being so close to the boardwalk. We ate at the breakfast buffet twice, it would good and convenient but a little pricey. I would stay again, but I wouldn't mind checking out other locations as well.

Room Tip: We liked the location of our room because it was the highest floor and tucked in the corner, so we o...

We stayed in the Cabanas overlooking outdoor pool which accommodated 6 very well (2 Queen and one double sofa bed). Could use updating but was clean overall. Location just at the edge of the 'real' activity on the boardwalk.
