The Tram operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and it runs the full length of the boardwalk. There is $2 per person charge whether you ride one block, 10 blocks or the entire length of the boardwalk. You can also buy a punch-card. It's a great way to relax when you're tired of walking.

“A taxi service, no longer a sight seeing ride.”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

I've been visiting OCMD for the past 35 years and have enjoyed taking the "boardwalk train ride" from the Inlet station all the way to the end at 27th street. It was a relaxing and enjoyable way to "see all of the sights" along the board walk and beach. For just a few dollars you could see the entire boardwalk in less than an hour. Sadly, all of that has changed.

The boardwalk train ride is now used as a taxi service for the thousand of visitors walking the boards. It seems the object of the train ride now is to "keep seats filled", constantly. In the past when you wanted to get off the train ride, all you had to do was to raise your hand and it would briefly stop and let you off, but now, anyone at any time can hail down the train ride and it will stop and you will wait while they pay for their ride and find a place to sit. So after sitting at either end of the boardwalk to buy your tickets and then wait in line for the train ride to come into the station, now you can just stop it in its tracks and get on board!
This is extremely time consuming and interuptive to say the least.

It took us a 1/2 hour to go from the inlet train station to 1st street because we stopped 3 times to pick people up along the way. At that rate, our "train ride" would take more then 4 hours, round trip!
I also noticed that once people would raise their hand to get off the train, the train would sit there for about 5 minutes, waiting to see if anyone else wanted to get on. Sure enough, people did get on the train...after counting out the exact change, going to the back of the train to pay the lady, look around for an available seat, figure out where everyone is going to sit. Then, the train starts moving again only to stop again when someone else raises their hand to get off and once again, and the whole thing starts over again. What was supposed to be a fun, relaxing tour, turned into a boring, hot, uncomfortable, nightmare and we decided to get off at 2nd street and walk back to our hotel because it was 11 PM and we didn't want to have to endure another 3 hours on the "taxi train from Hell".

We had purchased the "bargain" ticket for 8 rides at $20.00. There were 4 of us and we planned on a round trip ride. Since we discovered later that it was now used as a taxi instead of a pleasure ride, we tried to get a refund on the 4 trips we didn't use, but they would not refund our money.

I miss the old train ride and would suggest that they go back to the way it was. Besides, that's what they have the OC Bus service for....ride all day for $2.00.

“Great to see the boardwalk and all the shops if you don't want to do the 3 1/2 miles!!”
Reviewed July 29, 2011

Tram was a great way to see everything if you don't want to do the big walk. It seemed all the tram drivers were eating though,no break time? It is expensive but buy the round trip ticket to save even if you only go 1 1/2 of the way.

“Make sure u have the correct $ 2 ride.”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

Great 2 ride 2 the inlet & walk back. Helps save time & prevent kids from getting tired from all the walking. It costs $3.00 2 ride one way which isn't bad, just make sure u have the correct amount since they can't provide change.
