My wife and I are blessed to have a lakeside home in Deep Creek Lake, Md., although our permanent residence is in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area. When we are at DCL, which is often, we head to Englanders and Dottie's Fountain & Grill in Englanders Antique Mall.
Dottie's is an old time fountain and grill with counter stools and small booths. The menu fare is typical breakfast and lunch items....eggs, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, etc.
However, the atmosphere is great, the service prompt, the prices very reasonable, and the food good. In other words, what else could you possibly want? It's by far my favorite lunch/breakfast place in the DCL area! Sit at the counter & watch the grill chefs....they're phenominal!! And I should know, as in my early years I was a short order cook. After breakfast, stroll around Englanders Antique Mall. Lots of cool stuff from furniture to china to fishing lures to old political buttons! Great sauff! Nice restaurant in a nice store in a very nice town (Oakland, Md.). In the Summer on Saturday, check out the Farmer's Market across the tracks from the restaurant. Great homemade breads, pies, and fresh grown produce. Very cool!

Older place in the back to eat. Worth trying out. Don't expect much, but do expect feeling like you are in a different time and enjoy the old style food.

Now, don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, but it's pretty standard old diner stuff. The malt was very good and the onion rings were okay (a little soggy but still good whole onions with a good batter). But the soda fountain atmosphere, the community feel of the place, and the fact that you can order, wander around the antique store and then come back for your food, make it a place you should make sure you visit when in Oakland. (I suggest sharing a milkshake/malt with someone - they charged us extra but it's still a steal for what is really two milkshakes)

Take your time in here--there's so much to see! Antiques, oddities, rare items.

Good prices, home style menu choices. Comfort food for sure. Milk shakes that are hand made, good soup, grilled cheese , serious burgers, great breakfasts. I have been there about 4 times now. I could go on... its your drug store style soda fountain from the 50's / 60's. Like going back in time. A must see if you are in the area. I think they are closed on Sunday (but the antique portion of the place is open still... bring your camera and take some pictures when the restaurant is not open, there aren't many places like this left.
