“Nice Vacation Spot”
Reviewed July 26, 2007

We just returned from a lovely two night visit to Deep Creek Lake in the Maryland panhandle. The lake is beautiful as is the surrounding area. We stayed at the Suites at Silver Tree which are condos on the lake that rent out for daily occupancy.

The units were very well appointed with mini kitchens and balcony's with great views. There was a bit of noise coming from the outside bar and the sound insulation in each unit could be a little better. Overall a reasonable and nice place to stay. Be sure to book a room as far away from the bar as possible.
As far as restaurants go don't expect any 5 stars here as this is a vacation spot that caters to boaters and fisherman. Brenda's Pizzeria is a nice pizza place that offers great pizza and bistro type dishes at reasonable prices. For something more upscale try the Cornish Manor in Oakland about a 10 mile drive south. Great food, ambiance and service with great prices.

Swallow Falls State park and the Frank Lloyd Wright houses at Falling Water and Kentucknob are interesting atractions within a short drive.

“Business/Leisure Trip”
Reviewed June 1, 2006

We spent two days at the Wisp resort during January. It was unseasonably warm that time of year (near 60) but the snow was still very nice. A word on the skiing - the Wisp has a long tradition for icing over toward the end of the day - believe me, I found out the hard way. NOW, in terms of the room, we stayed in a double double with a sofa bed, two televisions, and bathroom. The room was very large, but wasn't the most plush lodging establishment. All in all, we would stay again. We did not eat at the Wisp, but there is a bar and restaurant downstairs. Also, all available equipment for skiing are available, as are ski lockers at the end of the hallway by the lobby.

The room was fairly cheap, too. And, the front staff was nice - I can't say that about the rest of the ski staff. The maintenance man and the security officer were also very nice.

“The Wisp Resort”
Reviewed June 13, 2005

My husband and I stayed at this ski resort this weekend at Deep Creek Lake. The hotel looked very nice from the outside as well as the inside. The front desk was very friendly, timely, courteous. The maid service leaves a little to be desired. They offer in-room coffee pots that looked as if they hadn't been cleaned since the last person drank a cup of coffee. Also, our room had hair still in the shower stall and a pull down table that we used for a card game was filthy. Otherwise, the room itself looked pleasant. They were in the middle of replacing and updating the decor. When we arrived, the halls were full of headboards that we had to dodge with our luggage but by the next afternoon that had been cleared out of the way. I'm surprised with the threat of lawsuits today that they would be allowed to have big heavy wooden headboards standing in the hallways for people to trip over. Also, there was to be a restaurant in the hotel which we found out after searching the whole hotel for the location was under renovation also. I believe taking down the advertising signs in the elevator would have been a good idea until the restaurant had completed renovations. Deep Creek Lake was beautiful, the location of the hotel was nearby, and the view from our room was fantastic.

“A very relaxing summer vacation !”
Reviewed January 24, 2004

This is a "belated" review as we first stayed here last June but now we're booking a house once again at Deep Creek Lake because we enjoyed it so much . I thought I would let everyone know how beautiful the Lake and surrounding area is . We are avid fishermen and this was the perfect vacation since the house had a boat dock ( we only had to put the boat in the water once ) and the lake is huge, you can fish a different area every day for a week and still not see the entire lake . We went fishing at dawn, came back to the house for lunch, took a lazy afternoon nap , went tubing with our son, came back to the house for a quick dinner and went fishing at night if we felt like it . The lake does get a bit crowded with boats, jet skis and such but it never interfered with our enjoyment . My son ( he was 16) enjoyed the tubing as well . Its great to see your teenager laugh like a kid when hes holding on to his tube for dear life as he's bouncing over the waves and our boat's wake . We rented from Coldwell Banker, very professional, friendly and helpful. The house we stayed in last year was an older one but it was spacious, clean and comfortable . It even came with several cute little chipmunks in the yard ;-) Maybe next time we'll rent one with a hot tub but we were so busy enjoying being on the lake that we didnt miss all the luxurious amenities that come with many of the houses on the lake .
If you go be sure to have pizza at Brendas Pizzeria on their outside deck , an ice cream sundae at the Dockside Creamery and try the seafood buffet at the Point View Inn -the seafood bisque was delish ! All of these places can be reached by boat if you wish , they have docks. There is a Super Walmart just down the road where we stocked up on a few groceries and fishing gear ( there is a marine service / bait shop / boat rentals on the lake accesible by boat as well . For the younger crowd there is a Fun Zone ( arcade, lazer tag, go carts etc ... ) plenty of hiking and rafting nearby too . The state park is right on the lake too . I think the reason it was such a relaxing week is the fact that we didnt have to drive anywhere if we didnt want to ( except for groceries the first day) , we drove to dinner once , the rest of the week we went everywhere by boat . There is a Travel by Boat brochure that is a big help if you want to do that .
All in all it was a great family vacation that we look forward to repeating this coming summer . If you like the outdoors especially fishing and / or boating, Deep Creek Lake is the place for you .
