We stopped by on a beautiful March day to see the park. We went all the way south to the lighthouse, snagging a few of the geocaches in that part of the park.

Just a long enough walk to the lighthouse, through field and old forest, lovely, hawks eagles osprey deer fox - there is a loop trail that many don't know about. Walk to the light house and turn right to lower corner of the field, entry into woods just before you go over the cliff. This goes thru woods down to the water and comes gradually back up slope to the main trail.

The walk out there is a very pleasant and picturesque. The view from the lighthouse is spectacular and when the lighthouse is open it is very interesting. Nice little book store. Privately owned and operated by a non-profit I believe.

My husband and I took the maiden voyage in our RV to Elk Neck. It was a really nice campground, very clean and well maintained. We were in the NorthEast loop-it's the only loop open to dogs and it also has full RV hookups. We had a nice, private spot. The bathhouse was very nice, perfectly clean, heated and the shower stalls were large and private. Hiking is nice and make sure you bring bikes because this place is big. On your way out (or in) be sure to check out the Turkey Point Lighthouse. It is not within the campground area and you have to drive up the road a bit but it's worth it. The hike to the lighthouse is about a mile and a half but it's an easy walk if you do it. We look forward to going back and taking more people with us.

Elk Neck State Park is a Chesapeake gem! The beautiful park offers a boat launch, camping and easy hiking. We visited in November, so can't speak to boating or camping. The drive along Turkey Point Road was beautiful with colorful, changing leaves. Keep in mind that the road meanders between state park and private or residential areas as you approach the main park. A small parking lot accommodates about 15 cars and it got pretty crowded while we were there on a Sunday afternoon. A flat path, perhaps a mile long, leads to a lighthouse on a peak overlooking the bay. This spot offers a striking view so a camera is recommended. In fact, consider bringing a blanket, too, because this is a great spot for a picnic or nap. Note there is no water or restroom facilities. Try the trail that leads along the cliffs to a rocky shoreline where you can stop and dip your toes in the cold water. Elk Neck State Park is a great attraction.
