We noticed this BBQ place on our way into McHenry and stopped to look at the menu. My husband went there later for dinner and the servings were so large, he brought back the leftovers which were more than enough for a dinner for me! The cornbread was sweet and moist - one of the best I've ever had. The coleslaw was perfect. The pulled chicken was smoky, tender and well-complemented by the home-made sauce. Mmm mmm good!

The establishment is convenient to all that is Deep Creek and the milieu is very homey and country. The beef brisket is wonderful and their bbq sauce is great. A must stop!

Not here to bash the place , but I needed to say something after our experience there. It's touted as the "Best BBQ in Deep Creek !", well that's because it's the ONLY BBQ place in Deep Creek with no other competition around. The PROS - Very Clean , almost like a school cafeteria behind the counter. The Atmosphere is nice, typical, and has plenty of parking. The larger gentleman behind the counter (owner/manager), very intense and strict on food quality, LOVED THAT! Now to the CONS . We made an order to sample a few different items on the menu. The RIBS - BLAND, hardly any smoke flavor and hardly any seasoning/rub on at all. They were pull off the bone tender , but who cant do that? I'd rate them just above "Tony Roma's", "Damons" and "Your local bar", but far below any good institution like say an "Arthur Bryant's" in KC, or "King's" in Charlotte. The BRISKET - Was dry, tough and oddly thinly sliced . Almost similar to grey corned beef , sliced for a Reuben sandwich. It seemed to have been held in a pan of juices to try and keep it moist. There was just no flavor at all. No smoke (no smoke ring) flavor, no seasoning (rub or just salt & pepper). Since both meats were dry and tasteless , they give you their sauce to help add some to it. If you're looking for a barbeque sauce that's either sweet, smokey, tangy, or spicy ......forget it. You'll get a little "twang" , but it may be from the overpowering hint of Worcestershire in it. My wife loves PULLED PORK, has eaten it from many famous and not so famous places from all over and she wanted to give it a try. She too, was highly disappointed at their take on it. Usually, a great smoked meat should be able to stand on its own, without the use of sauce, right? (See North Carolina) Not here. The pulled pork was already swimming in the sauce in its container. No shot at trying to taste what the actual pork flavor tasted like on its own . But if its anything like the ribs , and I'm sure it was, it makes sense. MAC & CHEESE - sauce had no taste. The pasta WAS cooked to perfection, but its kind of annoying when the sauce doesn't bring it together. One compared it to a popular store brand in a big red box. Couldn't tell if it was baked or just made in a big batch and poured into hotel pans, waiting to be placed into a warmer for service. I've read where one reviewer described the taste as "smokey" . Really? Where, because we never tasted it. We love our BBQ from all over, and to taste something this average from the ONLY barbeque restaurant in the area ,and in a southern state at that, really made us feel some sort of way. Like we were cheated. Nothing stood out at all. I've seen the positive reviews and ratings around the net (yelp, google), and wanted to trust others and give it a shot while on vacation with family. Now we know , if we want good BBQ in Deep Creek , we're gonna have to bring it with us. If someone wants to go to Deep Creek and give this place a run for its money ,(maybe its just what they need.....competition), for now , it doesn't seem that it would be that hard to accomplish. But like I've stated earlier , "Maybe we just came on a bad day."

Archie's was recommended to us by a local Oakland resident and we were extremely happy with it! The ribs were pretty good, but the pulled pork sandwich was AMAZING! And HUGE! Couldn't finish the whole thing, but it was delicious. I especially loved the homemade spicy barbeque sauce. I bought 2 bottles of it to bring home and I've been eating it on everything!
