“Great House but Lacks Amenities”
Reviewed February 16, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We rented this house for a ski weekend in February 2016. We have rented houses at Wisp and other ski and beach resorts for years so I feel we have come to know what makes an acceptable rental house and what makes it exceptional. This house was merely acceptable. The location was great - about a 2 minute drive from the top of the mountain. Quiet street. Flat driveway and GORGEOUS view of DCL in winter. The layout of the house was generally fantastic - big open living, dining and kitchen area. Spacious (not huge) kitchen with appliances in good working condition and a huge empty pantry perfect for food (almost unheard of in rental houses). Nice family room with a pool table downstairs. Bedrooms were nicely laid out - 3 of the 5 had private bathrooms which was great. The remaining two shared a bathroom in the basement - also fine. Bathrooms were all in good working condition with good water pressure for showers and lots of hot water. Laundry was very handy and worked well. The furniture that was there was nice and in generally good condition (for a rental - nothing is perfect!). The indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna were all great. Of course we definitely paid extra for those so I don't feel those amenities alone are worth of additional stars. TVs were all very good and the cable and WiFi worked well.

That said, there were some things that were lacking that would make this an exceptional house:
1) No mudroom!?! It's unbelievable that a house with 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms would NOT have a mudroom. I had assumed all of these types of ski houses had mudrooms but I was wrong. I'll always ask and confirm for future house. Our clothes and boots were strewn all over the house. We kept our skis in our cars or on the porch. In addition there were 3 hangers in the entire house so we could not even try to hang our coats in the tiny coat closet. Unacceptable for a house advertised to be a ski house. This could be partially remedied with hooks near the front door and inside the closet, as well as hangers. Really the house needs a mudroom addition on the front/side porch.
2) Kitchen - Kitchen had the bare minimum of cooking necessities. People who rent big houses are likely going to cook a few meals there even if only breakfast. We cooked all of our meals there so we got a good feeling for the house. Pans were ok but we could have used another frying pan or two, or a large griddle for pancakes. There were barely enough plates and silverware for 14 people to have one meal. There were only 7 or so wine glasses. There were almost no serving pieces - maybe 2 or 3 small or medium bowls and no platters or other serving pieces. There was only one medium sized mixing bowls for pancakes, cookies, marinades, etc. Generally the owners should stay here with a group of 10 for a few days to get a feel for what is missing from the kitchen. I doubt they have done that in years and if they have, they have not cooked!
3) Kitchen table could use an extra couple of chairs. It's a high top table so it needs more than just 2 regular folding chairs because they would be too short. Counter stools were too tall. There really should be table seating for the occupancy of the house. There was not even if you included the counter seating (3 stools).
4) The living room does not have enough seating for 14 people or even 10 people. We moved a chair from another room which helped but the house needs another sofa or a large sectional to really maximize the space. Each piece of furniture is MASSIVE so takes up a lot of space without adding additional seating.
5) Bedrooms need nightstands and bedside lights. Each room had only an overhead light and a few had one additional light on the dresser. It made it hard to read at night or even in the afternoon in the basement bedrooms. Also an extra blanket for each bed would be helpful. Might save on heat as well!
6) Basement sofa has seen better days and is definitely ready to be replaced. It should be replaced with a sleeper sofa. A new configuration might be necessary to maximize the seating.
7) At least one mattress had a broken box spring so it was sagging a lot in the middle.
8) House had only 2 board games - monopoly and something else - and no other games, books or puzzles that are very common in these houses.

Basically, this house is a good house if you are willing to bring a lot of additional stuff with you - paper plates and forks, serving dishes, blankets, hangers, etc. We paid $3500 for this house for a long weekend and I do not feel we got our money's worth given the lack of any additional perks.

“Needs some updating and then it could be great”
Reviewed December 4, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

All of the reviews of this property are a couple of years old so beware! While the extra add-ons like the indoor pool, sauna, hot tub and chopped wood delivery are great, the basic indoor amenities are tired and lacking. Starting with the sleeping accommodations. House is advertised to sleep 14...it only had room for 12. Our extended family was there for the Thanksgiving holiday and two adult family members had to sleep on the living room couch which is not a pullout! The Kitchen is really understocked given the amount of people that could potentially be staying there. In addition to the very basics there were only about 6-8 place settings of silverware, 2 wine glasses (more like footed beverage glasses) and either plastic or cheap Corelle dinnerware, again not enough to serve the potential 14(12) guests. My guess is that items have either been broken or gone missing over the years but have never been replaced. We were constantly having to wash to use and ended up having to buy large amounts of plastic knives, forks and paper plates. The cupboards were completely bare! No salt, dish soap, extra toilet tissue, bathroom soap...nothing! Guessing the cleaning staff clean everything out after guests leave. This property has a very high price tag for the area. In high end rentals you can usually expect tissue and soap. The living room couch is completely on it's last legs. Very uncomfortable especially for our elderly family members.

Having said all of the above the view is gorgeous and it was nice to gather the extended family for the holidays. All of my complaints could easily be rectified by management taking inventory and making some simple purchases.
