Wisp will rip you off to make money no matter how bad the reason. Never
buy vouchers from them (golf, skiing, etc) as they will not even give you credit
to use at regular rates if you are unable to use the voucher for hardships,
deaths, or military deployment reasons. They are not in any way sympathetic to
those that get called away for duty. Never buy a voucher at Wisp, no heart for special situations if you cannot use them in a specific time and the bottom line to them is profit, not service.

Ok, so the hotel is pretty much what the other reviewers have stated. It's not your 5-star resort, so you may be better off looking into renting a nearby vacation home or townhouse. We don't come here for the pool or hot-tub, so can't comment on those amenities. The eating areas do get super crowded during peak eating hrs, so plan on bringing snacks in your pockets so that you can go in during off-peak hrs.

We come here for skiing with our children and we have found that the resort is quite family friendly, in that aspect. The children's ski program is exactly what is described on the website. This year, we had an 8 yr old (in their "Club Wisp" program), a 6 yr old and 5 yr old in their "Willy Wisp" program. They were all booked for full-day programs (skis and boots are included, but not helmets), which are taught by college kids. At the end of the day, the "teacher" responsible for your child reviews your child's individual program and gives you a "report card" showing their progress and a picture. This year, they charged and extra $10 to keep the skis. Our oldest child started in their younger program, Willy Wisp, and loves to ski. Both our 8 and 6 yr olds were confident enough to follow their father down a black diamond trail. Our 5 yr old (this is her 2nd yr skiing) asked to go on the chair lift for the first time and we skiied down a blue trail together. The chair lift operators slowed the lift down when they saw my 5 yr old approach the lift. The resort also has a mountain coaster ($15 for two people to sit in a coaster together) for family members who don't ski (which we did have in our group), as well as a tubing hill (which is a lot of fun and more price friendly). Overall, it is a fun place to come skiing that's within a reasonable distance (a little over 3 hrs) from the DC area.

DO go to Wisp if you live in the DC to Philly area and want to ski on packed powder, enjoy views of the snow covered mountain and valley during your run at an unbeatable price midweek. Do not go to Wisp if you are looking for a luxury resort with top of the line modern amenities, nightlife and 5 star restaraunt. Our room was clean, but very average. Wisp would probably be a disappointment for you if you aren't going to be out on the slopes, because that is where Wisp resort makes up for faults. It's a nice view from the trails, considering this is the mid Atlantic and cold enough to keep the snow in good condition. Wisp management is probably at a point where they choose moderate renovations and keep prices low for skiing/riding.
One problem every year though is when I call for info about programs for the kids I get different answers from the staff and sometimes the info doesn't match the website. This year I called about the Burton Learn to Ride Package and the girl said it didn't exist although it was on the website. So, if something doesn't sound right, then call back - you might get someone else with a different answer. Last year same issue with a different program. Seems like better staff education about the resort and offered programs wouldn't cost much.
In short, go to Wisp for above average skiing/riding in the Mid-Atlantic for low cost and expect everything else to be pretty average.

We are sad that a ski resort with great potential was so poorly maintained and managed. Our Wisp ski vacation Was a huge disapointment. The Hotel is poorly maintained and the pool and hot tub area was desperately in need of painting, it was cold and there were broken light fixtures, the hot tub was very old and uninviting. The lodge at wisp is a joke. There is absolutely not enough seating and at lunch time people are actually sitting on the floor and in stairwells trying to eat. The access from the lodge to the slopes is an icy treacherous slope that is difficult to negotiate even for adults. The lodge at the top of the mountain has enough room for about 12 people and is a 100 yard walk across an icy parking lot from the lifts. The lifts are ridiculously slow (wow! seriously time for an upgrade, ever hear of high speed detachable qhads?) Like all MD. and PA. ski resorts WISP SKI AREA allows way too many skiers on the mountain to the point of crowded that is unsafe. Did we mention unsafe? Ski patrol at this resort does absolutely nothing to slow or inhibit out of control skiiers and boarders. Yes, that is not an exageration. I have 37 years experience as a skiier and former ski patrol and noone at this resort is getting a ticket pulled for being reckless. Please dont become injured at this resort as you will not be taken care of. After being run over by a snowboarder and 4 broken bones later I can assure you that Wisp Ski Resort is One place to Avoid. Other than that the view from the top is pretty nice.

We were at the resort for a family wedding. My wife and I had a room in the lodge facing the ski slopes. The room was a decent size with two queen beds, a couch, round table with two chairs, a desk with chair, an armore with falt screen TV and drawers. It also had a small frig but no microwave, but they did put one in the room for us for an additional $25. The bathroom seemed to have been updated with a nice shower for two with very nice glass doors. I wish the sink was in the bathroom instead of the hallway because when used during the night it is disturbing. Our
dissapointments was the lack of electric outlets and the scarcity of light in the room. The lights were a topic with all of our family in their rooms. The hot water was hard to get. We had to turn the shower on ten minutes before we wanted it, the same with the sink. Also, the drains did not empty quick enough.
We spent a lot of time in DC's restaurant and bar with family and friends. The staff were friendly and treated us great. The food was very good but it took a long time to get after ordering, wheather it was breakfast, lunch or dinner. All in all, I guess the resort is OK, but it is a ski resort. We had a good time but I don't think this would be our pick for a weekend get away.
