“A perfect getaway”
Reviewed July 21, 2011

This was my second stay at this inn. The first time was for an extended stay in one of the out buildings which are a little more modern. This stay was in the main house. The room was large and comfortable with two Queen beds,a private bath and porch. The inn is old so do not expect a modernization. It is beautiful and charming as it is. My favorite parts are the extensive grounds and the many porches. The innkeeper is a wonderful woman who has been there many years and is the perfect hostess. Breakfast is included and changes daily. The most delicious treat was the homemade yogurt and locally produced yogurt. it was hard to stop eating it.

My husband and I just spent 3 wonderful days at Wades Point. Our evenings were spent watching the sunset on the bay. The view at Wades point is spectacular. The owner, Betty was a wonderfu Inn keeper. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We liked it so much we are planning on going back this fall. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place.

My boyfriend and I wanted to go someplace not too far and not too expensive (he's based in New York, I'm in Philly). I wanted a town welcoming to foodies with water activities, and he was hoping to spend some time on a boat or two. We found it here!

We arrived at Wades Point Inn midweek before the 4th of July--and the silence was incredible. Walking into the breakfast area was like walking into a dream. It felt like a cruiseliner (the original owner was a shipbuilder) and the views were amazing.

Our room was perfect. It was on the second floor and had views of the bay. Not all of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms, but ours did. The property is old with 'country plumbing,' and I imagine that putting bathrooms in all of the rooms when it was converted to a b&b would have required enormous expense and would have damaged the integrity of the home. It was simple and small, which was all we needed. We spent most of our time outside, anyway.

The grounds are amazing. We were worried at first that being a 10-15 minute drive outside the town of St. Michael's might make us feel like we were missing out on the action, but after spending time on this retreat, we realized that everyone else was missing out. Only here could we use kayaks (at no charge; saw a bald eagle and kingfisher catch a crab), swim in the bay (using the b&b's floaters; water is deep enough to touch with your toes), and read all day in a hammock (there are two, and many more chairs), swaying in the bay breeze. And at night, we could head down to the dock to listen to the waves crashing up against the shore with a glass of wine (a refrigerator and wine glasses are available for guests' use). Now who can do that in town?

Breakfast was a treat every morning. Everything from granola with kefir to fresh fruit and muffins to a cheese pie, southwestern quiche, chicken salad, and biscuits with jam. Coffee and tea, as well, of course. Every morning I woke up wondering what delights I would enjoy downstairs. My only regret is that I didn't ask for their chicken salad recipe. (Chicken salad for breakfast wasn't something I'd done before, nor is it usually something worth noting, but theirs sure was tasty!)

And most of all, our hosts were delightful. Gracious and accommodating and just a pleasure to talk to. We are so grateful to them for our lovely stay.

For our last night in the US, this felt like the perfect location, a beautiful view of the Chesapeake and relaxation.

Beautiful view, certainly, it can't be faulted for that. But overall for the price we felt that it was overated.

The air conditioning was a noisy bolt on unit in the room, not a problem but it wasn't on when we arrived and at mid 30 degrees c outside it took some time to cool down. We were lucky that we had asked to pay less for the room - the initial room that was suggested didn't have an on-suite bathroom. And then at night, the mosquitoes. It was a blood bath, literally...... we couldn't kill enough of them once we got back into the room despite the nets.

Breakfast was the biggest dissapointment. Cold buffet of omelette, a meat posing as a sausage, stale croissant.

We'd being staying down the road paying the same for 2 nights as we did for one night here and really felt it was a let down.

Yes i remember you clearly, you seemed out of sorts and we did everything we could to try engage you and make sure you had a great stay. You chose the lowest priced room, hence the bath across the hall. We happily moved you. Those were not mosquitoes but mayflies which made a huge appearance this year and occupied much of our conversation and housekeeping efforts. Thank goodness they have passed!
That poser meat is actually the real deal , from a local family farm that pastures their animals. All our breakfast meats, milk, eggs and yogurt all come from 2 local family farms. I hope you've made it home safely and that whatever had you those days has passed. We would be happy to see you again, loved the accent!

Wades Point Inn is both relaxing and beautiful. We were amazed at the beautiful sunsets. Sitting bayside was totally relaxing. Betsy and her daughter are two sweethearts who stole our hearts. We talked to alot of locals as to their favorite eating places in St. Michaels and truly enjoyed every aspect of our experience. We will definitely be back again and again!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time! It was so quiet and peaceful. The main house was beautiful and the many screened in porches were the perfect place to enjoy the scenery. We arrived on Friday evening and were greeted by the most gorgeous sunset over the bay.
Breakfast included fresh baked muffins, croissants/biscuits, yogurt from a local farm, fresh fruit, oatmeal/grits, baked eggs/cheese pie, granola, juice, milk, coffee, tea. You can enjoy breakfast in the great room or the screened in porch. Soft instrumental music was playing and was a great way to start the day. My husband and I then took our coffee out by the bay and sat on the adirondack chairs.
Our room was in the newest building. We had a small porch facing the bay. It was perfect. I was a little disappointed that we couldn't use the porch because of the hundreds of mayflies (I think that is what they were) that surrounded our building. We had to rush in and out of our room so as not to get the bugs in our room. Next time I would pick a room in the main building and give up the porch so as not to have to deal with the bugs.
The Inn is a just a short drive into St. Michael's- great town.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the bay to enjoy the sunsets.

We hope to celebrate many more anniversaries with you! This must have also been an anniversary for the Mayflies, we have been here 27yrs and have never seen them in noticeable numbers as they have been this month. Something is out of whack--they are after all called Mayflies so i say its time for them to fly away and let the Junebugs have their say.

I just returned from two nights at Wades Point -- my third or fourth visit to this exquisite B&B on the Chesapeake Bay. I traveled with my sister and mother (87), who had been through a period of physical challenges and welcomed a brief time away.

Our first-floor room in the Kemp House had two queen beds, a kitchenette (not all rooms have this), a porch looking out on the Chesapeake, two good reading chairs inside, and ample storage space. No phone, no TV, no WiFi in these rooms -- so you'd need a smart phone or wireless card to maintain hyper-connections if you need to do so. I recommend minimal electronic intrusion. You don't want to miss the awesome sunsets, the bird chatter, the night sounds of the Bay and its environs.

A Great Room with a Cape Cod feel and an expansive view of the Bay is breakfast HQ in the main house. We had a cheese-and-egg pie one morning and an egg-and-sausage casserole and/or French toast casserole on the other. Fresh fruit, muffins, croissants, granola, yogurt, good coffee, juice -- a satisfyingly simple-but-elegant menu, tastefully presented.

The Inn has several buildings, including the main house with several floors of rooms, the Kemp building has two floors of rooms all with private entries. Even the first-floor rooms in Kemp have several stairs to negotiate -- and the main house requires 4-5 stairs just to enter -- so those who find such climbs challenging should be advised of that. Tap water in our room had an iron taste, but filtered water was readily available in the main house.

Hammocks, Adirondack chairs, chaise lounge chairs were available on the lawn, which is surrounded by Bay waters, offering many vantage points from which to watch the estuary and its many inhabitants and passers-by. The surrounding acreage -- some farmland, some homesteads -- also offers a short trail for those who enjoy such explorations.

A short drive offers multiple dining options in St. Michael's and on Tilghman Island. We especially enjoyed the fare at Chesapeake Landing and the St. Michael's Crab and Steak House. We toured the Chesapeake Maritime Museum, climbing the lighthouse and watching work proceed on several wooden boats there.

The days we were there were sunny and 70, quiet, relaxing. With the windows open at night, we could hear the Bay waters lapping at the shoreline.

The owner and staff were friendly, courteous, and attentive (but not smothering).

We enjoyed a refreshing, rejuvenating break with the Chesapeake Bay as our backdrop. Wades Point is a treasure.
