“Overpriced, overhyped, and underserved”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

One of the only reasons we went here was because of their highly advertised shuttle service. Inexplicably, it was not operating on Labor Day weekend. The staff seemed completely disinterested in helping our party of five get back to our hotel in Solomons. We paid $72 each way for taxis. The food was mediocre.

“Great place to stop by in your boat.”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Took the kids and grandkids here last summer while on a boat trip from Solomons. Food isn't the best in the world, but it will pass. Had a fun time while here.

“Nice place to eat with excellent view!”
Reviewed August 1, 2012 via mobile

8 of us went to veras this past sat night. The weather was perfect for us to sit outside. Just about everyone got the famous crab cakes. No one had any complaints and there werent any leftovers. I had a doz steamed crabs and they tasted delicious. The views of the river and the boats passing by were great.

“Not a good place for a quiet breakfast”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

If you dont' mind a country music station blaring while you eat, then by all means come to Vera's. But if you came to enjoy the view and the quiet of St. leonard's creek. go someplace else. I was hoping for a quiet relaxing breakfast overlooking the marina and St. Leonards Creek but unfortunately someone turned on the radio... Loud.....and if there were ospreys flying overhead calling, I wouldn't have heard them. Guess it depends on what you want. If you don't mind country music blaring at 930 in the morning, then this is the place for you. I prefer to read my paper and enjoy the scenery in peace.

“"All You Can Eat Crabs & Shrimp" - NOT!”
Reviewed June 14, 2012

On Thursday and Friday nights in the summer, Vera's has an (alleged) "All You Can Eat Crabs & Shrimp" buffet with corn-on-the cob. (The buffet only has these 3 components.) We went tonight and there were no shrimp on the buffet. The waitress said they ran out (with 1 1/2 hours left on the buffet). When we asked if there would be a discount due to no shrimp, she asked the manager and said the answer was no. I told the waitress they should not advertise "all you can eat shrimp" if there are no shrimp on the buffet and she replied, "Well, $25 is a good price just for crabs". Well, perhaps IF the crabs were heavy and meaty & replenished immediately, but these were small and lightweight (when we could get any). The corn-on-the-cob was missing during most of our meal also. The waitress said they were steaming more but when they did put some out, it was a small amount and immediately disappeared. Each ear had been cut into thirds and was not the best quality. They frequently ran out of crabs. When they did put out a small amount, the crabs disappeared quickly because everyone had been waiting so long for them to be replenished.

They just seemed unorganized & unprepared to run a buffet properly (unable to replenish the crabs & corn promptly, running out of shrimp early, etc.). When they did bring out more, it was a paltry amount that disappeared instantly due to so many people waiting for the replenishment. Several times we went to the buffet table, only to find it EMPTY - no crabs, no corn. and never any shrimp. When the buffet only has 3 items, it is imperative that those 3 items be continually available. They had also "run out of" wooden mallets with which to eat the crab claws.

Charging full-price for a buffet that was lacking a main ingredient - shrimp, and the other two components (crabs and corn) were unavailable for much of the meal seems like a poor way to run a business. After spending $60 (2 buffets @ $25 each, plus beverage & tax), we left there hungry and disappointed. On our way out, we bumped into some friends who also felt cheated because of the false advertising of "All You Can Eat Shrimp" when there was not any shrimp available, yet being charged for it. Vera's has a nice waterfront view, but the dining experience there was very poor. The "All You Can Eat" buffet was NOT "all you can eat" - it was "You are able to eat only 2 of our 3 offerings, and then ONLY when we decide to put out more, and then ONLY when you are able to fend off the other people in line to get a small amount of food."
