“Bad Gold Status Service”
Reviewed October 28, 2008

Stayed at Fairfield Inn over a weekend on points. I'm a Marriott Gold member which guarantees your room type and upgrade if available. Since my husband and I were traveling with our todller and wouldnt be arriving until 2 am - I called to confirm the reservation (never do this) at 10am the day we were arriving and to inform them of our late arrival with a request for the sofa bed to be made up ahead of time so that our child could continue sleeping with an easy transition. I spoke to a very lovely woman named Carolyn who confirmed everything and said she would not the account accordingly. When we arrived around 230am - we were informed that we had no such reservation that is was cancelled. We were then told that our king guaranteed bed was not available. after twenty minutes of futher inquiring, she found our reservation, but stated that our GUARANTEED ROOM type was not availalbe. The next day, we spoke to management and Carolyn - there answer was to upgrade us (already suppose to be given an upgrade) and to move us to our king bed requested room - although they were quite pleasant - this was unacceptable to me as these were standard gold benefits - nothing special. After pointing this out, she then offered a $30 lunch or dinner dining certificate at a local restaurant. Since this was a category 1 hotel and the rooms were quite inexpensive and since the manager and Carolyn were really nice, I accepted. As for the room - standard FI quality. One side of my mattress (on double bed) was worn but the other side was fine. We received one great towel and the other three were what i expected from this type of hotel. The hotel is in close proximity to Walmart, Target, Marshalls as well as numerous food chains - IHOP, Panera Bread, Ruby Tuesdays. There is a sports bar up the road one the same side of the street called Damons - that has good tvs and economical beers. My husband enjoyed the trivia.

Would stay again. I work in the area, so it was strictly business. Whirlpool is great.

The hotel was extremely clean. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast is acceptable with a few more choices than normal...the coffee was excellent, which is unusual. The hotel is in a convenient location. Despite two wedding parties in the hotel, the room was seemed to have great sound proofing, as it was quiet. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water in a good strong shower. I definitely recommend this for business or personal travel.

This is a no-frills Fairfield Inn that is well-kept and welcoming. You won't find a restaurant or bar on the property, but there is more than enough of that in the surrounding area. The whole property is no-smoking.

Your stay starts with greetings from the friendly frontdesk staff. The lobby is nicely decorated for Christmas and they even have some hot apple cider waiting for you. You proceed to your room which opens to an inside hallway which is clean and lit nicely.

The room is also clean and inviting. I was a little worried getting the room next to the elevator, but I wasn't bothered by any noise. The A/C was not as noisy as in other hotels in this class. The only real flaw was a loose handle on the sink faucet. (It basically lifted right off into my hand, but I was able to work it back on well enough to use it for one day.)

Nothing to write home about the fitness center. They have a couple of cardio machines (no strength training equipment) and a small indoor pool (kind of like a couple hot tubs put together.)

The breakfast is not a great spread, but you can find enough to make a morning meal if you aren't too picky. They had an assortment of fruits, breads, cereals and milks. The yogurt selection was skimpy. Plenty of coffee (regular and decaf.)

Just a basic place to stay at a reasonable price.

  • Liked — Clean
  • Disliked — Sink faucet coming off in my hand.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms, the bed, bathrooms, and TV/internet. Clean and bright, the rooms are excellent for the price.

I stayed at this hotel while on government travel for business at Patuxent River Navy Base. Main Gate is almost directly across the street from this hotel, so if traveling to there, this and the next door Hampton Inn are good choices.

Very small lobby, no sitting area, Attractive breakfast area. No cookies or other snacks, except old fruit (over ripe bananas, as example) that was available in breakfast area.

Parking was no problem. Actually, hotel is pretty much surrounded by the parking lot so if you want a hotel with ambiance, this is not a good choice. No problem with noise (had AC on).

Front Desk check-in smooth. Invoice placed under door at night so check out very quick - turn in key and go.

Room decent but not great. I was given (but did not ask for) a handicap access room, so may have been a bit larger than most. The bathroom was extra large and had a full tub, but that may have been because of handicap access. No lotion provided; soap, shampoo and towels all OK. Bathroom clean and plenty of hot water and water pressure. Decent shower head. Hair dryer in bath worked OK. Nice sitting chair and desk with chair. No couch. Plenty of drawers and closet space for two, for short stay.

Hotel does have high speed Internet access in rooms (believe DSN) with cable provided to hookup your laptop. I did not check to see if business center but none noted.

Room had iron and ironing board and coffee maker but no mini-refrigerator, which I have come to expect. No microwave.

Bed had very soft mattress. If prefer soft mattress, you will be happy; if prefer medium to firm mattress, you may be a bit disappointed. The problem was not an old or saggy mattress, The mattress was in good shape; it was just not firm.

Standard TV, estimate 27 inch screen. Had HBO and most standard cable channels. No radio.

Computerized wakeup call worked fine.

Breakfast was good - better factory breads than most, standard juice, milk and coffee. Provided standard cold cereals and instant oatmeal. Yoplait yogurt provided (only low fat strawberry, no other choices). No waffles or hot items like eggs or bacon but did have Jimmy Dean egg and sausage biscuits, which were not bad. No TV in breakfast room if want to watch news. Hotel did provide free USA Today newspaper.

Only restaurant I saw nearby was a Lone Star steakhouse. Front desk clerk recommended local restaurant (The Roost) which I tried for dinner and found disappointing (hot night, AC did not work, limited and somewhat strange menu choices (catfish, fried shrimp, and lobster on menu but in this restaurant about one mile from Atlantic ocean, no filet of sole or scrud or red snapper) and food except salad bar completely unmemorable and relatively expensive. Though pub-style restaurant, only two different beers on tap. I am sure if Lone Star does not suit your need there are other restaurants that would be a better choice.

Pool, whirlpool, and exercise area all co-located and adequate but again, nothing special.

Hotel is two years old. All appears in good working order. Room and public areas all clean and since new, no worn carpets or furniture.

Frankly, for the government rate of $89 per night with tax, I was not overwelmed. Hotel is clean and comfortable but nothing memorable. A good, safe place to stay if visiting the area, but next time I go (in June), I am going to try the next door Hampton Inn and compare.

  • Liked — Clean and all in good order
  • Disliked — Always like to have cookies at night and refrigerator in room; hotel offered neither. But basics all OK.

The property was generally modern and clean. The room was ready upon arrival and the front desk staff was efficient. The room was nicely appointed for this class hotel and the bathroom and shower were large. No complaints until at 2:30 in the morning I was awakened by the sound of squeeking and scratching coming from inside the wall next to the AC/Heater unit. I assume it was mice but never saw anything in the room (thank goodness). I decided not to call the front desk because we had a 5:30 wake-up call and I hoped by son could sleep a bit longer. Unfortunately, the mouse noise was loud enough that he too woke up at 4:00 a.m. I reported to the front desk at check-out and they indicated they would make a note of the problem. I am not sure how widespread of a problem this is for this property but I would certainly consider avoiding room 407!
