“Want to come back!”
Reviewed November 19, 2007

We just returned from a wonderfully relaxing weekend at Antietam Overlook Farm and can’t stop raving about it! From the moment we arrived on the farm we felt welcome and wish we could’ve extended our stay even longer. Mark and Phil are so friendly and warm and they provided us with a beautiful serene atmosphere. The breakfasts were phenomenal and we hope to be back again in the near future to enjoy them again. :)

We have just returned from one of the most pleasurabe stays in a B&B. The Inn itself was so peaceful and the panoramic view was outstanding.
The accommodations were very pleasurable and comfortable.
The in- room fireplace added a perfect touch. We spent quite a few hours in the great room in front of a very large fireplace, reading and listening to very restful music.
The breakfast was without a doubt the best.. The blueberry pancakes were great. Chef Phil and the owner Mark saw to all our needs. Whatever you needed all you had to do was ask and Mark woould see to it . We would reccommend it to anyone who wanted a few days away at a wonderful place. We plan to go back as often as possible. My husband and I stayed at AOF recently and we were not as impressed as some, more impressed than others on this website. Breakfasts are well done--culinary works of art-- but we aren't dessert eaters in the morning, so the 3rd course was lost on us. Many around us raved, tho, at the bananas and ice cream or the pecan crusted cake? finishing off our breakfasts. There are complimentary beer, soda, wine and aperitifs --very nice. We had issues w/th the coffee machine --either no caffeinated coffee available or when it was available, no cream or sugar to go w/it. (They have a pod coffee maker and a hot-spot for tea or cocoa.) In the morning, presumably, they make pots of coffee to set out for those of us up before the 9AM b'fast seating. Both mornings that we were there, one of the guests had to knock on the dining room door --this was near 9AM, not 7 or anything like that-- and ask for coffee and/or cream and sugar for the packets of coffee. If you aren't an early riser or a coffee-in-the-morning person, you'd love this place.

And we did find the rooms somewhat dusty and dirty w/cobwebs here and there, the place seemed rather run down; but as I told my husband, it is a farm, afterall! Hard to keep critters out of the rooms. We also found it strange there weren't drawers to put clothes away, just hooks-- quaint and woodsy, but difficult to live out of a suitcase for 3 days!

We enjoyed our screened in porch, watched wildlife all around, but we weren't in the highest priced Overlook room. (I'm glad we didn't stay in it, after reading the reviews.) And we'd agree, AOF seemed overpriced and not up to Select Registry standard. Could be they're just having a rough season. Looks like visitors from a few yrs past, really loved it.

I'd go back b/c I found the staff friendly (tho we met the owner only briefly at bfast the last day), the porches lovely (despite an occasional hole in the screen) and easy access to all we wanted to do. My husband found enough not-so-charming reasons to try someplace new next time we hit the area.

  • Liked — convenience of area/ porches
  • Disliked — cleanliness/lack of storage

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Antietam. I had seen this property in the Select Registry book and online and was very anxious to stay there. Boy was I disappointed. We thought the outside of the property was very run down. The flower beds were overgrown with weeds, the screened porches were missing sections of screen or the screens were patched. We were not at all impressed by the outside. Mark, one of the owners greeted us. The common room was comfortable - music playing, well lit and lots of books, mostly civil war books and cooking books/magazines. There was a nice area where you could get yourself a cup of coffee/tea and there was a fully stocked refrigerator full of soda, wine and beer if you wanted it. We asked Mark for his recommendations for dining in the area and he was really pushing his restaurant, the Antietam Cafe. We did not go there simply because he was so pushy about it. Our room was the Overlook room, the "best" room at the inn. The so-called sun porch and screened porch were jokes. The sun porch consisted of a beat up lounge chair and cushion on a porch identical to the screened one, only no screen. The screened porch barely had room for an old metal table and two chairs. There was ratty carpet on the floor and the screens were patched. The room was dusty - there was an inch of dust on the headboard and dirt on the carpet under the coffee table. My husband and I spent our two nights there trying not to roll into the rut in the middle of our mattress. The worse thing was the shower. The toilet and shower in are a separate closet-type room with one light. When you get in the shower and pull the shower curtain closed, you're practically in the dark. We jokingly began calling this the "shower tomb". We were told the first day we arrived that breakfast would be at 9:00 a.m. The first morning we went down to breakfast at 8:45 a.m., the other guest were already half way through their second course. The second morning we went down at 8:30 a.m. and breakfast was at 9:00 a.m. Other than the banana split served as the third course on the second day, the breakfasts were good. All in all, I think it was overpriced and run down. I would not recommend it nor will we be making a trip back.

AOF was a pleasant place to stay, generous with amenities. My major problem was with the price. I felt like there wasn't tremendous added value given the hefty price tag.

My wife and I spent 3 very pleasant days at Antietam Overlook Farm, a beautiful B&B in Keedysville, Maryland. When we arrived, the owner, Mark helped us carry our luggage to our room on the second floor and then showed around the property. Mark is a very gregarious guy and wherever and whenever we encountered him he was pleasant and smiling. The view is spectacular from the covered and screened porch of the Overlook Room. There is a main sitting room where the guests can mingle and interact, and for us that is one the great benefits of a well run B&B, talking with all the other guests
The breakfasts were served in the charming dining room and were really something to write home about. Mark was the chef and it was easy to tell that he enjoyed his guests. Breakfast each day was different and each consisted of three delicious courses. We had never before had dessert with breakfast, but that is a great idea.
The Farm was sold out on Saturday night, so Sunday morning was a lot of fun at breakfast. On that third morning all the guests celebrated my wife’s birthday and Mark supplied a cake for the occasion.
We will definitely put the Antietam Overlook Farm on the list of B&B’s to which we will return.

  • Liked — Very pleasant overlook view
  • Disliked — Too much light in the room at 6 a.m.

We had a great night at Antietam Overlook Farm. After we arrived, we had some complimentary wine and relaxed in our beautiful room. The room had a gas fireplace for a romantic ambiance. The breakfast was wonderful as well. We highly recommend this place for a nice getaway!
