“Course in great shape!”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

Played Saturday & Sunday - Memorial Day weekend. course is in great shape. Two cautions: (1) for the ladies - there are no bathrooms on the course except at the turn (2) I made tee times a month in advance and received a confirmation email with the dates and times - got to the course on Saturday and there was no record of my tee time - pulled up the email to show the pro shop. To their credit they acknowledged the error and fit us in but VERIFY YOUR TEE TIMES even if you get an email from them. That email from them is obviously not always correct!!!!! Not sure why a course with this reputation is not using an automated reservation system.

“Top Notch Golf Course”
Reviewed May 21, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Bulle Rock golf course is the best golf course in the State of Maryland--and you probably can add Delaware in also! Always in pristine condition, the course design is outstanding, with the rolling terrain providing a wide variety of hole types. The greens are fairly fast, but not overly so and they putt very true. The rough is thick and lush, so I strongly advise cutting back on distance and focusing on hitting fairways. Pick the tee box that allows you to do that. Enjoy!

“Premier Golf, Ideallic Setting”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Bulle Rock Golf Course is one of the most beautiful, challenging courses you'll ever come across. Pete Dye created a masterpiece in this tract. Bring your "A" game, try to enjoy the beauty even if your score isn't as pretty as you'd like. Remember that all greens are fast and break toward the Bay, and slow when putting back toward the Clubhouse. Keep it in play and have a hot putter and you'll score well here. Don't forget to come inside after your round and enjoy a cold drink. Ask Matt the bartender to make you one of his special Red Sangrias. My all time favorite golf course!

“Bring your A game”
Reviewed October 8, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Bulle Rock will challenge every aspect of your game and require every club in your bag to be used over the course of the round. The course is gorgeous and always in perfect condition. Pace of play is usually good in terms of not waiting on every shot but you should expect five hour rounds because of the difficulty of the course. I make it up there three of four times a year from DC, which is about a 90 minute drive. It is worth the trip.

“Reputation only?”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

This was to be the pinnacle of our three days of golf in Maryland. After reading numerous reviews lauding Bulle Rock, we kept it for last in anticipation of what was to come.

First off, the setting is indeed quite pretty, at first blush. Staff was very accommodating, the clubs were loaded promptly (and with a complimentary Bulle Rock bag tag), and we were off to the practice range. The range is quite a drive from the course itself, as its location was initially destined to be part of a second 18 holes. The economy - per the starter - took care of that. :)

After a good overview from the starter - and his request that we only use the Bulle Rock divot repair tools that we were given (which worked exactly the same as any other tool) - we were off.

The course is a typical Dye deign - thick rough, deep bunkers etc., but what struck me was the inordinate amount of dogleg holes, and the fact that NO hole was memorable. Usually a Dye course will have two or more holes that you remember for a really long time - not this one.

It DOES, however, have very tame deer who show up quite often and make for a pleasant diversion.

I also must agree with a previous reviewer and remark about the lack of twilight rates. There really is no reason to penalize the player who would like to play the course, but can not or will not shell out $130 for the pleasure. (I will take time now to once again agree with a previous review and state that for $130 this is a darn good $85 course).

So, nothing really memorable for me. I don't really "get" the accolades - there are at least a half dozen Dye courses that stand out more than this one, and if you're golfing Maryland I would try Lake Presidential in Upper Marlboro.

Just as difficult, less than half the price, and very interesting in both layout and topography.
