“Nice place for a picnic but watch out for the geese poo”

This past weekend I attended a family reunion held at a pavilion at Susquehanna. The pavillion areas were huge, had electric, access to bathrooms and a playground. The downside was that you had to be careful walking because everywhere you stepped there was geese poo. It was really disgusting. The $2 admission is collected on the honor system which is different and on the ride in there appeared to be nice trails for walking and fishing.

The trail was outlined with railroad tracks. it's goo for hikers, but for regular walks with your family it's not that convenient. There are trees laid on the trail that you have to climb over. The trail is shaded with trees, so it's good on hot days though. Oh, and don't forget your bug spray, there are plenty of flies and other bugs, especially near where the water is stagnant.

Here you will find history, nature and walk along the Susquehanna River learning about the area. There is a Vistor's Center, working Grist Mill with tours available through it and also for the Mansion. The gentlemen that did the tours seemed very knowledgeable about the area, the canal that once ran up beside the river, the community, the original Native Americans (The Susquehannock). There is a picnic area with nearby pond, plenty of walking trais and places to enjoy Deer Creek. They have camping available if there is space available. I do believe the cabins must be reserved. This place has been my peaceful getaway for over 30 yrs and will continue to be all the days I am able to get there. I love this place. It is just one of Harford County's gem if you like nature, bird watching or a family day splashing around in Deer Creek. There are only fee's at the boat launch, picnic area and campsites. The rest of the park is free. Fishing, boating, trail walking and just exploring are some favorites of many in the area.
