“Decent Hotel for a short stay”
Reviewed November 16, 2008

We took an over night trip to Hagerstown to see a band that we enjoy at Cacun Catina night club adjacent to the hotel - It was a great location for our purpose - It was about a 100 foot walk from the hotel to the front door of the club.

The room we had was very nice - it had been recently remodelled. The bed was good & I have to admit I am pretty picky when it comes to beds. Check-in & check-out was easy.

We had a King room that opened out to the pool atrium area. If you are planning on sleeping in - I would recommend getting a room that is toward the outside of the building - we were disturbed by noise from the pool area in the morning - they use a room off of the pool atrium for breakfast and you could hear voices echoing loudly as people walk to & from the breakfast area.

The breakfast was just OK - typical Choice hotel continenetal; breakfast - the coffee was good though.

I thought this hotel was a little pricey for the area - the rack rate was around $120 - the manager gave us a 20% discount because I mentioned we were patronizing to the night club that night. Even with the dicount I thought the price was high - especially with all the other competing hotel chains in the area.

The whole hotel is being remodelled - most of the work in the hotel area appeared complete but there was still evidence of construction going on - the atrium had taped off areas and there is a huge banquet room area that was still under major renovation.

Overall it was a good stay - we had fun. I would probably stay here again if I was going to the same night club.

This Clarion hotel is okay if you are on I-70 east or west (3 to 4 minutes). If you are on I-81 north or south, this hotel is not easy to get to. If you value your time, getting to this hotel from 81 will consume much too much.

Please consider that my comments are from the point of view of someone who makes 75 stays in hotels every 365 days (I stay neutral until something positive or negative about the hotel impacts me). I don't see the point of view of those who are giving this Clarion glowing ratings. Neither an A+ or an F, I rank it a C+.

Hotel's Good features
1. Room was comfortable (bed comfortable)
2. Room was clean
3. Atrium/pool area is interesting

Hotel's Average points
1. Hotel is remodeled, but it is the same structure I stayed in 40 years ago.
2. Breakfast is average for Clarion and below average for hotels as a whole. Fruit was tasty, but no eggs available, and only frozen waffles (a waffle maker would go a long way towards upgrading the breakfast).
3. Complimentary USA Today

Hotel's not-so-good features
1. Breakfast has to be eaten by the pool. Breathing the chlorine did not improve the meal.
2. They do not provide lids for the coffee cups. Of course, some spilled in the car.
3. Maid interrupted my morning at 9:30 knocking. Front desk miscommunication? Or hit the road we want to clean?
4. Wireless internet? Your room better be within a paper airplanes flight of the lobby.

Summary. Rooms are decent. They need to review and improve the breakfast and internet.

The Clarion Hotel is a lovely, luxurious hotel in Hagerstown. The rooms are beautiful and spotless. The indoor pool area is magnificent - with tables, a bar area, the breakfast area, and many plants adorning the spacious area. The hotel is completing a remodeling, and everything was new. The staff were helpful, polite, and friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much.

On 7/26/08, my husband & I stayed for an overnight visit at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. We were in the area for an event at the Hagerstown Speedway (motorcycle flat track racing) and did not have a planned reservation, so we basically took a chance to see if the hotel had any rooms available since it was listed on the site as a point hotel. I went into the nicely decorated lobby and was assisted by a very helpful Front Desk rep. She was able to place us in a room with such short notice; for which we were very grateful. We noticed some construction coming into the entrance of the hotel and I noticed a sign posted that the hotel aplogized for any inconvenience from construction since the hotel apparently was being renovated. This came in handy, since our room was located on the 2nd floor almost directly above the lobby and this area of rooms were either under renovation or were just completed. So, when we went into our room, we were pleasantly surprised at how niced it was decorated and the fact that everything looked pretty new to us. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, the air conditioner worked efficiently, and they had little extras to make your stay comfortable as possible. For thos of you who like to swim even when the weather is bad; you are in luck, since the pool is indoors in an atrium setting. If you are hungry, you need not travel any further than next to the hotel; they have a bar & restaurant attached to it (food was great!). There is also a club attached to the restaurant and hotel which has decent entertainment available during your stay. So, if you are in the area, you should give the hotel a try. We payed a pretty decent price of $119 before taxes for a weekend visit. As a side note, we inadvertently left our camera in the hotel room and the Front Desk rep working Sunday morning by the name of Russ, was very, very helpful in retreiving our camera and assisting in having it returned to us. Keep up the good work!

This hotel has made amazing improvements over the years! We had stayed at this hotel several years ago, and only booked it again this year because it required the least number of choice privileges points for a free stay in the Hagerstown area.

Upon our arrival, we were overwhelmed with the improvements. It looked like an entirely different hotel! The beautiful lobby is highly impressive and sets the mood for your stay. The room was very clean and comfortable, with new carpeting and mattress. The lights above each side of the king bed allowed for comfortable reading without having to get out of bed to turn off the light.

The renovations to the pool/atrium area were fabulous - better quality than most world-class resorts! It includes a bar in the evenings and delicious breakfast in the mornings in a relaxed, open setting. This large, beautifully decorated area would be the perfect setting for a wedding reception, prom, birthday party, or other group event.

The highly proffessional, efficient, and curteous staff rounds out the experience.

This hotel has become our first choice for staying in Hagerstown!
We highly recommend it for anyone looking for a pleasant, comfortable, affordable stay.

  • Liked — The pool/atrium area, the friendly staff, and the cleanliness of the entire hotel.

This is blues festival season, and we attended the Western Maryland Blues Fest again this year. We looked for two things in our lodging: proximity to the festival site, and the room rate. The Clarion offered both. The hotel is being renovated; all new carpet, flat screen tv, the atrium/swimming pool area is truly amazing. Hospitality suite and bar poolside, a business suite offering internet access (also available wireless). The staff at the front desk was very professional and friendly; we were able to add an extra nights' stay with no trouble. Next door is Barefoot Bernie's Cantina; a great sports bar/ restaurant (which also delivers to the hotel). Very close to gas stations, grocery stores and a variety of fast food outlets, but still very quiet as a result of it's physical setting.

We will look here first next year- hope Russell is still on the desk.
