My husband, teenage son, and I stayed here for one night on our way north, so I should begin by making it clear that this hotel and Hagerstown were not a destination for us. My comments, therefore, have little bearing on location or convenience of the hotel, which might make things look somewhat different to others. Indeed, for us, coming off I-81, this was kind of far into town and a little creepy to drive to late at night.
We got this hotel via a last-minute Priceline bid for a 2-1/2 star property and paid about $75 for one night. What we got was, I suppose, decently reasonable for that cost--room was spacious and we slept quite comfortably. But if you like the clean, updated interiors of, say, a Hampton Inn, you are not getting that here. This is clearly a couple of steps down. Again, if you're ok with that, fine, but don't expect something as nice/new/updated as Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express.
The room, for instance, has a "popcorn" surface on the walls (yes, the walls, not just the ceiling), and it's apparent that this surface is basically "shedding" all the time, as the carpets had white dust all around the walls. The hallways had an off smell, and the bedding was very basic--none of those fluffy duvets and pillowtop mattresses that you get at those other hotels. And the bathroom (which did, very nicely, include two sinks, one inside and one outside--good feature when traveling with kids) had one of those roaring exhaust fans that runs any time you turn the (rather dim) lights on.
Breakfast in the morning was pretty bleh: heavy on carbs, with few healthy options--no fruit, protein, or anything like that. Again, not horrible, but just not notable in any way.
I did peek out at the pool as we were leaving, and it's very large and looked clean and quite nice. There are events spaces at this hotel that I imagine could make for an attractive event, maybe milling and mingling around the pool area. But we weren't there for that.
Bottom line: if it were 1990, and I were still in grad school, this would be ok. But, for 2012, there are much nicer places in this general price range. It was just kind of a letdown and did not have the more luxurious feel that even modest-range hotels (like those mentioned above) now have.
