“We love Trains of Christmas!”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Although the museum is in an old building (needs major work) the admission is cheap and the kids love it. It is open all year but we love Christmas time, seeing the holiday trains. Kids can control some trains, see cool moving displays and there are rooms with good info. There is a gift shop there also. Credit card friendly :)

“Inexpensive Fun for the Whole Family!”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

This museum was originally formed to try to save the Western Maryland Roundhouse located on the railroad property behind the museum. The bad news is that the roundhouse was eventually torn down. The good news is that this group has maintained lots of history of not only the Western Maryland (although that is their main focus) but also from other railroads which served Hagerstown. This museum has a number of full size railroad cars and engines but some are not accessible as they are located in a working railroad yard. Housed in the museum itself are a number of historic displays as well as working model railroad displays. There's a small gift shop located on the first floor. The first floor is handicapped accessible. The second floor is not as there is no elevator. The volunteers are extremely knowledgeable. They have some special programs throughout the year -- notably "The Trains of Christmas" (an O-scale layout which runs for several months) and the Spring "Heritage Days" with outdoor displays and sometimes rides too. This is a very inexpensive, fun-filled outing for kids and adults alike. Spend some time here and have some fun.

“Informative & great for kids”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

The Roundhouse Museum was a great little place with tons of history. The workers were extremely knowledgable and willing to answer any questions we had. On the first floor there were lots of old displays of trains and buildings, with lots of pictures on the walls of the old trains and train stations. On the 2nd floor there were more displays, including trains that kids could control with the push of a button. It was nice to see all the history of the town, and the kids loved it!
