“Nice Surprise - Ideal Quiet Getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2011

I didn't know what to expect from a log cabin, but I admit a shack filled w/ angry raccoons came to mind. When we arrived at Cabin #1 in New Germany State Park, we were very pleasantly surprised to find the place an ideal getaway for two - no phones, no tv, but all the required luxuries of a full kitchen w/ designer counters and tiles, a more than comfortable bed, beautifully renovated bathroom with a good shower, an outside grill, nice porch, fully stocked woodpile and a wood stove in the fireplace. The decor was lovely, a nd the trails were wide and easy, with a burbling stream running alongside. The nearby lake was beautiful, and the trees-birch, hemlock, pine and sugar maple were beautiful that time of year. The entire park was clean and well maintained - can't wait to go back!

“Wonderful hidden treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2011

The park itself was not as easy to find as I would have hoped, but once there it was beautiful. The swimming area was clean, beach area as well as the water.
The Nature Center person was pleasant and knowledgeable. She was an exchange student from Africa.
The snack bar was just closing so we didn't get a chance to try it, but it looked clean with lots of room.
The rest rooms offered showers as well as the usual facilities.
Great Place to visit.

“Great Cross Country Ski Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2009

This was our second trip to New Germany to do some cross-country skiing in the park. The log cabins we stayed in were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Yes, they are rustic. They are also cozy and wonderful. The park rangers renovated the cabins last year and it shows - new appliances, new windows, wood-burning stoves.

The park has a cross-country ski concession by the lake. It's a friendly family-run operation. They'll rent you your skis, sell you some homemade chili, and let you hang around the wood-burning stove getting warm and playing games.

There are miles of ski trails in the park. Some are challenging. We stayed on the easy trails that wound around the lake, through the closed campsites, and along the river. After skiing the boys did some sledding behind the ski building. We had a great weekend. .
