“Teriffic small restraurant”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We have eaten here several times and have also had a very good meal. The menu is limited but varied. The setting is quite nice, since it used to be a railroad station and still has a small post office on the lower floor. Most recently, we had eleven adults and kids for brunch. Its very kid friendly and everyone loved their meal. They don't take reservations for after 6:30 PM (and they're limited).

“Historic building, excellent food”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Full disclosure - I live in Garrett Park, so Black Market is super convenient for me.

Black Market strikes just the right balance of quaint, casual and classy. The environment - in an old home converted to mixed use - in an historic town is welcoming. The food is consistently very very good.

Highlights include:
- Mussels - both the thai style and the traditional are very very good. Sop up the sauce with bread!
- shrimp and grits - always a go-to meal here
- at brunch, the benedict with salmon is yummy. served on a biscuit that melts in your mouth.

The wine list is decent, if not overly impressive. Same goes for the beer.

Definitely worth a trip to the burbs.

“Intimate and unfussy”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

I went with a friend to dinner at Black Market Bistro on a Monday night. The food was fabulous - I definitely recommend the Addie's mussels. The rooms were cozy but not over crowded. I liked the Monday night special of some wines at 1/2 price. The menu was varied from pizza to fish/chicken/meat, etc.It is a neighborhood gem.

“A Little Off the Beaten Path”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

The Black Market Bistro tucked into the small town of Garrett Park is a gem. They serve good food at reasonable prices either inside in one of three smallish rooms or on the front porch where you can watch trains go by. The serve very good hamburgers, onion straws and pizza. The largest of the dining rooms, on the left side, can get pretty noisy as the tables are pretty close together. The other two rooms are more intimate where you don't have to raise your voice to carry on a conversation..

“Quaint and tasty”
Reviewed May 4, 2013 via mobile

The French onion soup was iffy, but the rest was solid. The veggie plate entree was a true gem, not an afterthought. Shrimp and grits and a pork chop and a KILLER mushroom pizza rounded out a fine meal.
