Inexpensive place to stay for DC travel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 16, 2017
Only spend the night here before the March for science. It was a very good hotel for the money, and I would be tempted to stay there again. It was much less expensive than the hotels in DC proper and within easy driving distance to a metro stop so you don't have to put up with the DC traffic. The room I was in was in the middle of the building and it was surprisingly quiet considering there was a wedding reception in the Hotel conference room. The whole area seems pretty new with a large number of hotels and restaurants/shopping within walking distance.

I had a good welcoming a lot of help from the staff. The location is great with great view and walking area. However, the room was not that clean. Towels seemed to be old. Bed sheets and covers was dirty even when I asked the room cleaning. The sheets were replaced with same cleaning quality.

This hotel checks off every box on both my "Needs" list: Fantastic, proactive service. Inspiring, spacious room. Luxurious, comfortable bed. Great location with convenient access to business and entertainment options. Tasty, easily accessible food.

AND it provides several "Above and Beyond" features that check off things on my "Wants" list: High quality TV with large range of free programming. Beautiful, unique setting (gorgeous lake with fountain, paddle boats, waterside bars, etc.). In-Room Dining that includes a "pick your food up yourself OR pay the room service fee" option.

This is a very, very well-designed and well-managed hotel -- the kind of place that makes being away from home just as nice (nicer?) than being at home!

Room tip: A view of the lake is worth asking for! Inspiring.

Zemo T,

Thank you for choosing our hotel, and taking the time to write such a glowing review. Proactive and Friendly service is what we strive for and I am happy that we achieved that goal during your recent stay.

I am also happy to read that you enjoyed Marriott's new in-room dining concept, Fresh Bites. After much research Marriott developed this program to provide our guest with fast, delicious, convenient and less expensive options. It is a whole new take on in-room dining. The new seasonal menu of locally inspired, chef-crafted food items are a favorite with guests and staff alike.

I hope that you are able to visit your new home away from home soon!

Thank you,

This is not my first time I’ve stayed in this hotel. It is very convenient if you have business in Gaithersburg or surroundings areas. The location is very good with a reasonable offer of restaurants within walking distance at the Rio Center. I’ve reviewed several of them, not my favorites but for sure a good option for a casual bite in limited time during a business trip. This hotel offers a good restaurant and bar with a good menu.
The property is very well maintained. It is all you will be expecting from a Marriot hotel so no big surprises, the standard room clean, good bed and pillows, and all the standard amenities you may want. Something that I really did not like it was the lack of a safety box in the room. I travel form abroad and bring cash passport and other things I wanted to keep safe when I was away. May be you have to request a room with safe deposit on the front desk but today this is a basic thing and the hotel management should consider this.
There is a free parking lot so if you are driving a car this is not a problem.

The only problem I had was that I was not able to book a corporate rate from outside us they charged me more than 300 usd per nite, but after a complaint the returned the difference.
Thanks

Room tip: Request a lake view room in the upper floor

Julian F,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

As we take pride in all aspects of our hotel I am happy to know that you enjoy the location and food and beverage options of the property.

When you return to the hotel please ask the front desk for a safe deposit box. Which is located at the front desk.

Hope to see you again!

Stayed here on a weekend for a wedding and was thoroughly impressed. The late night check in person (can't remember her name -- ending in 'rose though pretty sure) ensured we got a room having a lake view as we requested. Forgot our toothbrush and came downstairs and they were able to give us some for free. It's small things like that we appreciate. The morning room service breakfast was quite good and economical. It's small things like plastic forks and spoons, but ones that have thick handles and thickness to make it feel so much less cheap. Even the napkins they put them were of a high grade quality. Both eco-friendly and makes guests feel welcome. The location is great and it was nice to get up in the morning and see people running/walking around the lake and seeing the duck boats. Again though, can't recall one person from housekeeping to the restaurant or the front desk or the wedding we were attending there that hit a wrong note. We usually stay at pretty high end hotels and I could say the people staffing this hotel were getting to a luxury hotel level of service and friendliness. Each person we met seemed like they were actually liking having to work there. Close to shops and restaurants. It was a great wedding location and the service is really quite great.

Room tip: higher floors, lake view room

What a fun place! Right on a large pond with colorful paddle boats. The pond is also surrounded by restaurants, shops, a theater and a small amusement park. The food is good and the help is lovely - especially in the Concierge Lounge (from which there is also a beautiful sunset view). The entire hotel is spotless. We were there for a convention and were pleasantly surprised at the delicious food served "in massive quantities" at lunch. Overall, I'd say that Marriott can be proud of this one.

Room tip: Ask for a room on the Concierge Floors overlooking the "Lake"
