“A Diamond in the Rough--We were pleasantly surprised”
Reviewed July 28, 2009

Great price. Good location, given the close proximity to the Metro station. Shuttle service is a great amenity, but van needs to be bigger--lots of people use it. One day we walked to the station--wasn't a bad walk. Computer availability is a perk, but there is only one--lots of kids on it when we were there. Has a guest laundry, but it's only 2 washers & 2 dryers--not quite enough to go around for the whole hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are older but very clean. Pool was great--would be great if it closed at dusk instead of 8PM (still plenty of light in July). Breakfast was great--a very big selection, more than the usual (even for the deluxe) at the Comfort Inns. Was there on a Tuesday for the Manager's Reception from 5:30PM to 7PM--beer, wine, soda, hot appetizers--very nice! Definitely an older hotel, but well worth the price--we will stay here again.

We stayed two night over the 4th of July weekend. The rate was very good for Washington DC. We were given a room on the top floor which was very nice. Even though the hotel is in the city and on a busy highway, it was quiet. We used the shuttle to the metro stop and it was fine. (Note, the metro parking lot are free on weekends, you can park your car and not have to rely on the shuttle). The breakfast was very good for a free hotel breakfast, nothing fancy but better than most. There is a local pizza/submarine place next door which is good for a quick meal.

We stayed in July 2009 and the staff was there for our every need. They have a shutlle if your going to the Metro to go into DC. Metro station is only a few minutes away by car or shuttle. Our rooms were very nice clean and it was quiet.
The morning free breakfast had a large selection of doughnuts, muffins, fruit, juices, eggs, cereal and they had a great make your own waffle maker and more in a large room with great decor and tv. The pool and park in the back was very nicely landscaped. There are places to eat within walking distance that are family friendly. We got a pamplet from the desk for Capital City Sightseeing which picked us up ($48.00
per person) at the hotel and drove us to Arlington where we had time to walk and see the changing of the guard and then on to all the memorials with a stop at the old post office for lunch. We were the only people on our tour so it was like having our own personal driver for the day. We took a trip through Georgetown and then the drive brought us back to the hotel it was about an 7 tour. This was an excellent way to cover a lot in one da yand we loved our drive Madood. Taking the Metro was really safe and it was easy to get to The Smithsonian. We really loved everything about this location in the suburbs but good location to access DC. Love, Loved Loved it! Hats off to the staff they were the nicest I have ever encountered at a hotel. Oh year and we only pd $87.00 per night what a steal!

I chose this hotel after reading other good reviews. They were right. Great place (after we found it - GPS was being uncooperative). It was clean and comfy. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is about a mile from the Shady Grove station of the Red Line, but the hotel provides a free shuttle. FYI - the shuttle is a six-passenger van, and is first come, first served. We watched one guy make a fool of himself by throwing a fit because he had to wait for the shuttle.

The only slight negative was a wimpy flush on the toilet. Made me chuckle at the "help us save water by re-using towels" signs when it took multiple flushes to clear the bowl, but otherwise, a great place. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for four nights at the end of June. We decided to stay here because of the price. We got an excellent rate of 89.00 a night. The hotel lobby was nice and the staff friendly. We stayed on the 2nd floor. Our room was small but for the amount of time we spent there we were okay with it. We had an issue with ants on the wall. I talked to the front desk and they asked me if I wanted a can of Raid. I told them no and they said they would send someone up the next day while we were gone. I guess they took care of the problem because they weren't seen after that. Our room was clean but the beds were a bit small. Each room had a refridgerator and microwave. Also the in room safe was a nice touch. Hotel was in a quiet area.
The breakfast area was nice and they had plenty of choices. You could make your own waffles.
The pool was okay, it closed too early for us. After walking around DC it would have been nice to come back to the hotel and take a dip in the pool. It didn't happen because the pool closes at 8:00pm. We did use it one afternoon.
Not many restaurants in the area within walking distance but if you have a car to drive not a problem.
Metro station is close by. I wouldn't say within walking distance but close.
I would stay here again. It's a great value for the area.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights with our 2, 6, and 14 year old children. Our room was clean and comfortable with many amenities and was ready for us, complete with crib, despite an early check in. There was a microwave, coffeemaker, hair dryer, and mini refrigerator in the room and the beds had extra pillows. Each morning there was a breakfast in a large dining area with waffles, cereals, doughnuts, breads, bagels, juice and biscuits and gravy. The outdoor pool was clean and had a lifeguard, but it had very limited hours. A van was available to shuttle guests to the nearby metro station and would pick up from the metro when called. Our waits for the shuttle were not unreasonably long. Newspapers were available at the desk daily and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The parking area was somewhat small, but that would probably only be a problem if you were arriving back at the hotel late in the evening. Overall, I was quite happy with this hotel.

We decided to stay here on recommendations from our neighbors and got a great AAA rate. The rate was under $95.00 for weekdays and weekends as well. Quite a substantial savings from closer DC hotels. First off, the hotel is a little hard to find. My GPS had us lost and couldn't find the hotel. If you exit at Shady Grove, be sure to stay in the far right lane and after a few sets of lights, you will see the sign on your right. You have to turn right at that corner and the entrance driveway is right there. The hotel is very clean and not what I expected for a Comfort Inn. The foyer has beautiful marble floors. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The complimentary breakfast was great. There is a free Wi Fi connection and guest laundry. The room fit our needs but there were a few things that bugged me. The beds were just full beds and pretty small for two people. The rooms overall seemed small. The maids start cleaning very early and often were at it by 8:00 am. They had the vaccuums running at that time. The pool closed early at 8:00. This hotel overall was very quiet. That is if you shut your air conditioner off at night as that was a bit loud. The location is close to the Metro. You could walk it but I wouldn't. It was about 40 minutes into the city by Metro. Overall, what you get far exceeds the price they charge. The distance while a little inconvenient wouldn't keep me from staying here again. Great budget hotel. One more thing to note is that this hotel has recycling bins right in the rooms. I have never seen that before and I was impressed with that.
