We needed a over night stop in the DC area. The Summerfield came up on the web with a high rating and it had a special rate for the weekend, so we booked it. We got off track and called the hotel for directions. The desk person figured out where we were and after several rights and lefts got us to the hotel.

Room was very good and breakfast was okay. I would probably use it if I was going to vacation in the DC area. The train was only a couple of miles from the hotel.

This property is a real find for family get-togethers. Metropolitan DC offers a central location for rendezvousing with family from out of state.

Reserving our suite online was a breeze, as was check-in.

The rate ($129/night) was quite fair given the space...2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, kitchen (w/full size fridge, oven/stove, microwave, dishwasher and utensils), living room with pull out bed...a total of three color TVs. The suite was spotless and considerately tidied per our request.

Because the suite was in the name of the elder member of our party (a 79-year-old), at check-in he was given the $99/night rate for the entire suite. Can't beat that deal for seven people (age range: 3, 5, 38, 43, 47, 73, and 79).

One of the employees offered and then followed through on his offer to take the elder member of our party to a late-night grocery to fetch some staples for our children.

Add in a pretty adequate complimentary breakfast and I challenge you to find a better deal in the DC area. The breakfast selection varied the two days we were there, but always consisted of eggs, a meat (either bacon or other), baked items (waffles, pancakes, muffins, breads), cereals, milk, juices (apple, cranberry, orange), yogurts, etc. There was also a selection of coffees and teas available 24/7.

There was also, surprisingly, a small basketball court. In addition to ample breakfast room seating there were outdoor tables and gas grills on the patio (between the breakfast room and pool). Unfortunately, despite a late summer heat wave, the pool was closed (as all the lifeguards returned to school).

The staff was quite courteous and responsive to our needs. To cap it off, the hotel staff encouraged/endured our somewhat loud, midday (post check-out) birthday party in the breakfast room area.

The area felt safe and was convenient to the highway, as well as the Washingtonian Center (a faux retro small town design offers a wide range of fairly upscale shopping, casual eats...and Target! The RIO Center offers many movie theaters and more food options. A small lake offers nice views and paddle-boating.

If one cares to venture into DC, the highways and parkways are easy enough to navigate for those of us area expats, but with the Shady Grove Red Line Metro nearby, there's no need to deal with driving.

We consider the Summerfield Suites by Wyndham in Gaithersburg the best kept lodging secret in the DC area.

Just back after 3 nights stay. So here is a summary of our observations.

1) Check in - sorry but this place totally lacks in customer service and plain common sense as far as check in/reservation desk staff. Many mistakes were made with our bookings, invoicing, etc etc.

2) The grounds - well kept, nice pool and layout of buildings.

3) Suites - the size and layout worked well for us. We had two suites both had king sized beds, ensuites, a living room and kitchenette. While the suite met our needs as far as space, the carpet had ripped parts in the entrance, the couch had two major worn pieces (not sure if it was an attempt to remove stains or what). We all did admit that the beds are really comfortable!!
A heads up, there are 3 floors and no elevators. Luckily we had arranged for a main floor suite due to an elderly parent.

4) Free breakfast - while free breakfast is appreciated, this is nothing more than Holiday Inn express level. Come on, learn from Embassy Suites. Powdered eggs? Yuck! Canned "fresh" fruit. Weak coffee. Once again, Hyatt people, if you want to have this property under your name, you need to step it up several notches with the quality of your breakfasts.

5) Maid service - they were inconsistent. Forgetting to make the bed in one of the rooms in a two bedroom suite? How does that happen?

After all this, would I stay here again? If we were travelling with the family again, and got a good deal perhaps. Only next time I would know what to expect.

We just got back from a two night stay at the Summerfields Suites. What a mistake. We originally booked the Hilton but changed our minds after reading reviews on trip advisor.
Check in was at 4 pm. We arrived at 4:40 and were told that our room wasn't cleaned. We were told we would have to wait at least 20 minutes. Besides us, there were 3 other families that had been waiting over 45 minutes. The man at the check in was RUDE and would not give anyone a chance to speak.

We finally went to our room after 5 and even though we were guarenteed a king bed, there was a queen bed. I called to complain and was told by the same rude check in person that it was the only room on the first floor. I never asked for a first floor by the way. They did move us to another room with a king bed. ALthough the room was non-smoking, it stunk. The towels in the bathroom were dirty and mold was all along the edge of the tub.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I know.

We have twin two year old boys and this hotel was absolutely perfect in every respect. We rented a 2 bedroom suite (got a decent rate on Expedia) so our boys could share a bedroom and not wake up when we moved around. The room was equipped with a kitchenette, including a dishwasher, which my wife loved. Very clean and comfortable, our boys slept better there than at home! The hotel provided 2 cribs and they were waiting for us in the room when we arrived. They even permitted us to check in early which allowed the boys their afternoon nap. They have complimentary grocery shopping and were very helpful at the front desk. There is a nice little workout room with 3 treadmills, 3 stationary bikes, some free weights and several nautilus-type machines. Finally, the breakfast was great. Eggs, meat, cereal, juice, fruit, bagels, toast, coffee, tea...it was all fresh and good. We will go back.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times, most recently in October. The property is well managed. The rooms are spotless, spacious, quiet, and comfortable. The staff is helpful and courteous. There are a number of good restaurants and a variety of shopping options nearby. When we travel to the Gaithersburg/Bethesda area, this hotel is tops on our list of places to stay.

We love Summerfield Suites!

We stayed at Summerfield Suites in Gaithersburg twice a month last year when we visited a very sick relative. Obviously, we were under quite a bit of stress. We found the hotel by looking at Expedia.com. We were attracted by the two bedroom suite and reasonable price (we paid $119 per night for the weekend). However, we booked through the hotel website since it was even cheaper there.

We felt we needed a place to relax and hang out when we weren't at the hospital. This hotel sounded ideal.

It was even better than we expected.

The hotel is spacious, bright and clean; the staff polite and helpful; the breakfast is excellent; the breakfast room was cozy and comfortable and the rooms themselves were terrific. Large, well laid out and private. It had internet access, three TVs and two bathrooms which was great since we had our two teenagers with us. What I haven't heard anyone say is that the bed had an extremely comfortable pillow top mattress and the bedding was luxurious -- quilt with duvet cover, crisp yet soft sheets, and pillows that were not too firm and not too soft. We stayed there 6 weekends and 5 weekdays. The room was our home while we were there.

We are planning to spend our 30th wedding anniversary at Summerfield Suites in the Boston area next month "(without the kids of course) and are greatly looking forward to it!
