So you want it all.. Full on nature but the amenities of a Hotel. You can have it here. My fiancée and I went on the lake, rode segways through the Forest, and relaxed by roasting marshmallows at the fire along the serene lake. We sat by the lake and meditated next to the ducks. This was an awesome trip for us.when we got bored of being all nature- y we would walk one minute to our room or the dining area. If you want a nice nature vacation but are too scared to venture to the mountains of Alabama this is definitely for you!! There was also a good mix of people there. So young or old, black or white, check this place out!

The view of the lake and mountains at Rocky Gap is a 5 however I would not consider it a resort. In the past it has been a wonderful family friendly property. It has a lake with a man made beach, volleyball nets, indoor pool, hiking trails and other child friendly activities. On a recent visit we noticed they removed the playground from the property. Slot machines will be arriving soon and I am hoping it does not take away the peacefulness and family friendliness from this property. The staff is not always the friendliest but rooms were clean. Prices are fair and it is a wonderful location and place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. I hope the new owners invest money updating the rooms and staff on proper customer service. Asking them to smile and educating them about the property would be a great start! We will go there again as the view is breathtaking.

Mike and I had plans in Cumberland and La Vale so we booked a three night stay at Rocky Gap.
The snows came.We ended up staying put. But we went on three great hikes around the lake. The lodge looked magical at night from the far bank of the lake.
We had a mediocre lunch so were worried about the buffets. But we ate at the Christmas buffet, breakfast buffet, and the pasta buffet. There were plenty of selections.Everything we chose was very good.
Quite a few weary travelers took shelter from the storm and the impassable roads and the staff did a great job accommodating them, even the ones with the family dogs. Wish the exercyle was in good working condition, but the pool was great. All the staff that we came in contact with were upbeat and helpful, even though the storm snowed quite a few of them in so they missed Christmas with their families. Nice folks. Great buffets. Not what we planned,
but a wonderful place to ride out the storm.

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms has a lovely view.

We stayed in a family suite which was roomy and comfortable for my family of four that includes my 6'2" 16 yr. old son. Beds were comfortable, but pillows need replacing. Bathroom has a large sink area outside of toilet/shower area in addition to the large sink area inside bathroom. There is plenty if room for everyone to get ready, wash up, brush teeth, etc. I could do my hair without holding up everyone's shower. My brother stayed in a standard room which was much smaller wirhout the extra space un the bathroom area. Breakfast in the restaurant was delicious! I recommend the Belgian waffle. The pool area was fabulous with a nice hot tub and roomy area where they have a glass enclosure/retractable roof over the outdoor pool. The entire facility is roomy and well maintained with areas for family to gather.

We have spent the past seven Thanksgivings at Rocky Gap. It has an indoor pool, beautiful setting on a lake, and a seemingly nice golf course (we don't golf). The rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. It is not an upscale place but definitely a perfect place for a getaway especially for families. We always hike the loop trail around the lake on Thanksgiving day and the lodge offers a variety of outdoor and child-friendly activities on the weekends. Nice lobby for relaxing with games or a book. Small gift shop. One or two restaurants or you can venture to Cumberland which is 10 minutes away.

Room Tip: Lakeview rooms are not and families might want to spring for a suite!

We were there for the golf!!! Hardly spent time in the room which was in need of modernization(which apparently is on the cards, and includes a casino)The bar staff are some of the most friendly I have met. Paying what you scored on the golf course for your beer was AWESOME!! The evening outside fire and marsh mellows was a wonderful touch to end one's day.
Would we go back........certainly!!

I stayed here this past summer with family and we all enjoyed ourselves! The rooms are very dated, but i barely spent any of my time in the room. Rather, i did many of their activities they have at the lodge. My family and i did the off road segway tour and our tour guide was absolutely fantastic! I wish i could remember his name because he was wonderful. We rented paddle boards, and tried many other water activities which were great for the whole family. The scenery is gorgeous. Deffinitely worth it to spend the extra money on a water front room. Was able to relax by the water and read a book in my spare time. They have nightly campfires which are great for the kids! Enjoyed my stay here. Wish they would update the rooms. However, i would stay again.
