Owner description: The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Catholic shrine devoted to Our Blessed Mother Mary, is a place of worship, pilgrimage, evangelization and reconciliation. This beautiful mountain shrine features one of the oldest American replicas of the Lourdes shrine in France, built about two decades after the apparition of Mary at Lourdes in 1858, and attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year from all over the world. It offers the occasion for a deepening conversion, a step forward in the journey to God, with Mary as the model for that journey.

“Almost Heaven”

I come to the Grotto a lot. It is a beautiful and serene place. I also like the " FEEL " it has. Almost like Heaven. You want to make sure to bring a water bottle to fill at the mountain spring. And a couple dollars donation for a prayer and to light a candle. But that's up to you. The welcome building is now completed with nice new Restrooms and a beautiful little shop with religious items to purchase. The view of the valley below is breathtaking. Make sure to sit down on one of the benches and take a few minutes to enjoy it!

“Very serene”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

The first day we went there was a light rain. We kind of breezed through taking in a small amount of the Grotto. Later that day we decided to return the next day. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. We were so glad we did. I'm not a real religious person but I was so impressed and felt so peaceful throughout the walk. I enjoyed watching how other people took it in. It was well worth the return trip. I would recommend getting a brochure of the Grotto before you start your journey, it was extremely helpful to us.

“This is a beautiful site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

A late afternoon weekday stop was very nice for an hour of peaceful reflection and a nice walk in the forest toward the grotto.

The site is covered with signs reminding people that this is a religious retreat, and that you should be respectful of the quiet. Some signs are very specific that this is not a playground for children, which only made me reflect how bad things must be on crowded weekends if you are just trying to pray with screaming kids running everywhere.

I love this place even more for daring to threaten with removal anyone doesn't understand proper behaviour, even though I'm not Catholic and not even religious.

The grotto will offer a peaceful retreat from all the hub bub of the day. Relax and pray or just enjoy the beauty God has set before you.
