The Smithsonian Environmental Center is a a part of the Smithsonian Institution (SERC). Its mission is environmental research in in research on linkages of land and water ecosystems in the coastal zone and provides society with knowledge to meet critical environmental challenges. SERC, in addition to its research work is committed to education in its environmental role. SERC is also custodian of 2600 acres of land. A visit to the center offers an educational opportunity in the environment but also the archeological and historic value of the Center's property. SERC is an opportunity not to be missed.
