“Beautiful rooms, delicious breakfast”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

My husband and I, our two children (aged 7 and 10) and my MIL, stopped overnight in Cumberland MD during a recent trip and stayed at the Bruce House Inn. My only complaint is that we needed to leave early the next morning to continue our trip and therefore did not get enough time to enjoy this beautiful inn. From the moment we arrived Pam was welcoming and thoughtful. The rooms were beautiful, with a great view from our window. The breakfast was delicious and she was kind enough to vary the meal to accommodate our kids requirements. I would recommend this inn to any people looking for a place to stay in the area.

We loved this inn!!! I want to come back!!! The inn is a lovely old building from 1840 built on the top of a hill in the town of Cumberland. It is beautifully decorated throughout. I loved the high ceilings and long winding staircases. I like to think about the people who lived here in earlier decades and what life was like back then. Our room was the "Crow's Nest" on the third floor. It had very comfortable beds and a wonderful bathroom with a claw-legged tub. Pam, the owner, graciously allowed us to check in early and gave us advice on places to eat in the area. She also cooked us a wonderful breakfast with muffins, waffles, and fruit (we are vegetarians so we don't eat meat). We loved listening to records with music from the 30s and 40s in the breakfast room. There is a nice fireplace there too. The inn is in walking distance to many attractions in town; particularly to the old Victorian mansions on Washington Street and the downtown mall area. We recommend this inn to anyone who comes to Cumberland! You will love this place!

Room Tip: It was nice to have the option of twin beds since I was traveling with my mother and we sleep better...

The Bruce House was a great place to stay. We went with 2 other couples and all of us loved our accomodations. The Monk's room was beautiful with views of the city lights at night. Pam the Innkeeper was great and helped us find things to do and attractions to see. We will definately return when the railroad is open again in the spring. We would highly recommend going to Cumberland and enjoying the history there, and the great restaurants. If you go, stay at the Bruce House! You will love it!

Judy, sorry it's taken me so long to thank you for your comments...as you know we headed off to South Korea shortly after your visit and came back with a gold medal in the giant downhill slalom! Big celebration here in Cumberland! Your group was so much fun. Thanks for choosing the Bruce House and we hope to see you here again.

On this particular weekend adventure, I wanted to visit a town in the mountains without being relegated to a tent (which my husband despises), a roadside motel (which I despise), or a creepy house that shouldn't rightfully be called a B&B (which we both despise). I found the perfect solution at The Bruce House Inn, located in the town of Cumberland, MD.

This newly-renovated historical property is the brainchild of Pam Reynolds, who combined her cosmopolitan sensibilities with her flair for subdued vintage decor into this beautiful bed and breakfast. The rooms are large, comfortably appointed, and elegantly decorated. The bed in the Robert Bruce Suite was like a supportive cloud dressed in soft linens.

From this location you can visit the small art galleries and antique shops in town, take a ride on the scenic railway, or get in touch with nature... the opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, white water rafting, and the like appear endless. We didn't have a chance to fit in any of those activities, but our limited time there was still very enjoyable with pleasant dinner and sightseeing in town. We also appreciated Pam's wine and cheese hour, along with her delicious breakfast the following morning.

Overall, the value offered at the Bruce House is unbeatable, and we won't hesitate to come back again for the hospitality and peaceful surroundings!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Robert Bruce Suite, which was spacious and very private. We saw the Columbia Bruce...

We stayed in the Washington room. It was beautifully appointed with a large bathroom. The room has a beautiful view of town. We WILL stay here again. One of the best run B & Bs we have encountered. The owner was friendly but respectful of boundaries. The amenities excellent (great bed, green tea soaps, terry cloth robes, claw foot tub, hardwood floors, and more. Perfect.

We returned to Cumberland after living on Fayette St. 50 years ago when we were newlyweds. We had a wonderful experience @ this B&B. The room on the 3rd floor was clean & quiet except for the church bells & even they had a certain charm. Pam, the Innkeeper was very pleasant & eager to help in any way. Each breakfast was different & delicous. We were there in April. Sorry it has taken so long to share our experence. We would recommend this beautiful place to all.

Room Tip: Our 3rd floor room had windows on 3 sides. Very large & comfy.

My husband and I planned our thanks giving weekend this year to Cumberland and opted to stay at this inn and so glad that we did. The room was very nice and clean although it got very warm ~ 90 degrees at night. The Inn keeper Pam is a very warm and welcoming person who made our stay very comfortable.
