“Relaxed, spacious elegance”
Reviewed July 15, 2011

We biked the GAP Trail and C&O Canal Towpath in June, and this was our stay on our 4th night. The host, Gail, goes out of her way to make bicyclists feel pampered and welcomed. We stayed in a spacious queen bedroom with an incredibly large, clean, and well-appointed bathroom - heaven to a biker after a long day's ride. We were welcome to use the washer and dryer on the same floor as our room. A bowl of candy treats, interesting books, A/C plus a ceiling fan kept us very comfortable. Gail even provided an assortment of snacks to take with us on the next leg of our journey. Breakfast was huge and delicious. The best part for us was that when we asked Gail to sit with us over breakfast so we could ply her with questions about the Trail and Towpath, she warmly agreed and was full of suggestions for how to structure our trip and where to stay. We wish we had talked with her at the onset of our planning for this journey! At the end of breakfast she jumped up and drove my husband to the store so he could purchase some first aid supplies. She even lined up a bike store owner down the trail who would pick us up if we didn't have the legs to complete the next leg of our trip. This gal is the real deal. Stay here not just for the comfort of the room and deliciousness of the breakfast, but also for Gail's hospitality and good humor.

On a spur moment I decided to stay overnight in Cumberland on a business trip. With not many options of B&B's I was delightfully surprised with the Inn of Decatur! The Inn Keeper was very pleasant and helpful to my needs. The room was very comfortable & clean with plenty of space to relax. There was private parking and easy access to the inn. It is in a convenient location to the quaint downtown of Cumberland. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic with several options and certainly plentiful. I would highly recommend staying at the Inn on Decatur to others! Truly a hidden gem!

Room Tip: any room is nice & spacious

We are three friends who spent a few days bike riding the C&O trail. Over six days, we stayed in five different Inns. The Inn on Decatur is: Historic row house; clean; comfortable; With: abundant and delicious breakfast; friendly and accommodating host (Gail). We would stay here again!

My wife and I spent one night at the Inn on Decatur while cycling the C & O Canal from Cumberland, MD. Our spacious, clean and comfortable room was in the back of the house where noise from a railroad about a quarter mile away might be a problem but we heard little train noise. It was one of the quieter places we stayed in on our trip. The innkeeper was helpful and friendly. There was no WIFI in the house which was located about a mile from the C & O Canal and the Great Allegheny Passage. Breakfast was excellent in both quality and quantity. If we visit Cumberland again we will stay at the Inn on Decatur.
