We found this place through tripadvisor and the reviews were accurate. We had a very good meal and excellent service. For an appetizer we split a special that was a caprese salad with watermellon added on the side. I had the chicken marsala and my partner had special dish with chicken and pasta. Both were very good. For desert we had spumoni ice cream, which is made for the restaurant by a local ice cream shop. It was excellent.

We usually stop at Geatz's for Italian food in Cumberland, taking the back route from the Winchester area to Northwest PA (take 9 and 51 rather than Rte 522 and I-68 for a two-lane trip), and Geatz's is a consistently good 'red sauce' restaurant. But trying Ottaviani's just off the downtown mall led is to Italian at least a couple notches above the average. Combined with nice outdoor seating next to a fountain (not fancy, but a nice background), the friendly owner and the outdoor arbor, the food was the highlight. The civitella combined cream and truffles and two types of mushrooms in a lighter than usual dish with all the richness of many white sauces but none of the weight, and the pork cacciatora was equally well-executed - delicious dishes.

Went down to Cumberland to bike part of the GAP and some friends had told us this was the place to go. So glad we did. Sat at the bar because we were so casually dressed but seems like anything goes. My wife and I shared a wonderful Caprese salad then I had pasta bolognese and she had a sausage and pasta special. Both were excellent. The bartender recommended a really good, moderately priced wine. Great bread and oil. The owner stopped by twice. Nothing but good things, can't wait to get there again!

Our dinner at Ristorante Ottaviani was one of the best things about our trip to Cumberland. After a disappointing dinner at another restaurant our first night in town, we weren't optimistic about finding a good meal in town. We were happy to be proven wrong by the food and service at Ristorante Ottaviani. To start with, the bread is amazing. Wine by the glass was very generous for the price. The salads were also generous. The mixed greens came with lots of yummy veggies (and olives). The Caesar salad wasn't overly-dressed and came with fantastic croutons. The pasta was very good. The civitella with mushrooms was earthy, creamy, and delicious. Our server topped everything off by being attentive and helpful. All in all, a great dining experience.

This is what the Italian dining experience should be - when you're here, you really are treated like family. Food is fantastic, authentic, and the service is excellent. There is a really good selection available at the bar, many different beers available on tap and in bottles, and the wine selection is better than any other place in Cumberland. Overall, despite being a little expensive, I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for the best place to eat in Western Maryland.
