We always enjoy our stays at the Rocky Gap hotel and casino. The hotel staff are always courteous, helpful and friendly while the rooms are clean, comfortable and well maintained by the housekeeping staff. The lake side suites are our favorite rooms to stay in and they have great views of the Park. The casino is is new and is always an entertaining place to try your luck. A++++

We were looking forward to a relaxing weekend camping at Rocky Gap and hoped to enjoy the lake and all of the park's activities. We had not stayed in a Maryland Park before and soon learned that the pads set up by the parks can make it very challenging to set up the campsite. We had to leave our dining canopy in the car because it would not fit with our tent. Since we ended up staying only one night, though, it was probably a good thing. We left after only one night for two main reasons. First, an unofficial trail leads straight into the campsite we reserved, and we had people nearly run into us several times in the 18 hours we were there. Second, the restrooms and bath house were disgustingly dirty. Another camper and I were in the bathroom at the same time, both trying to figure out which shower/toilet stall was least objectionable. Unfortunately, we never got to enjoy the lake or other activities in the park because we left the next morning.

Rocky Gap is the perfect weekend getaway spot. Not too far a drive for a spectacular natural setting. If you plan to camp out, make your reservation in advance as certain areas book up quickly during peak weekends. The campsites are spaced nicely so you have some privacy. The bathhouse is nothing special. The campsites with electric hook-ups do not have individual water taps so plan to bring your own bottles. There is a camp store in a pinch. Great hiking trails, retal kayaks on the lake, and a cool little aviary with owls, eagles, hawks, and more. Get away from it all at Rocky Gap. You'll be glad you did! Oh, there's a casino resort nearby on the lake but who needs that anyway?!?

We attended an outdoor wedding in the amphitheater followed by the reception on a hill overlooking the valley. The park is a kick-off spot for many athletic events including a bike ride to Washington, DC along the Cumberland Trail. The little beach area along the river appealed to families and boaters.

Rocky Gap has it all.

The campgrounds...always important...the restrooms were clean and bright. If camping on a weekend any campground restrooms are dirty. The sites are spacious. We camped in Fir Memorial Day Weekend. Perfect location to lake activities and park. We were in Birch Labor Day Weekend. It was too far from the lake and park. You could walk there but it was up hill back. After a day at the beach with kids or it rains it could get old fast. You can bike everywhere.

Hiking...the Lakeside trail is great. We left from F loop and made it to the casino. The kids were dead tired and the casino shuttle driver took us back to our loop. Th Canyon Overlook trail was breathtaking. Get up on the rock and take in the scenery. The Touch of Nature trail was an easy walk to the dam.

The programs offered on holiday weekends are great.

The lake is very clean and clear. The left side of roped off area for swimming is less rocky. You can rent kayaks and canoes for $5 per person/per hour. You can also rent fishing poles from the nature center for $5 and if you bring it back in the same condition you got it you get your $5 back.

Reservations early for holiday weekends.
