Description: The Tomato Palace, opened in 1993, is the family-style Italian restaurant adjacent to Clyde's of Columbia on Lake Kittamaqundi. The popular menu is affordably priced and includes pizza, pasta dishes and salads. The atmosphere is casual and fun, with colorful graphics enlivening the walls and menus. Seating is ample for families; and the whimsical tomato chairs by furniture maker Peter Danko are always a favorite. In warm weather there are 50 seats beneath the arbor for outdoor dining by the lake

The joint was hoppin'. We had a party of 6 and they worked hard to accomodate us. Everyone enjoyed the food. The menu had plenty of options for both adults and children. Our kids love Cheese Pizza so where better to get a pizza than an Italian eatery. Unfortunately, I'm on a lower carb eating kick at the time of this visit so I had to skip pasta entries; however, I still had a great meal. The sirloin steak that I ordered was cooked perfectly with wonderful broccoli and tender but well seasoned red potatos. The service was excellent from entering to leaving. We particularly liked that our table had 2 pitchers/carafes of iced water at the ready. The atmosphere was a bit generic but overcome quickly by the service and food.

While we were seated quickly, it took forever for the waiter to acknowledge us. When he finally did, we were ready to order. He didn't offer to tell us about any specials (which we heard a waitress near us tell her table), didn't bring water (like all the other tables were getting), and didn't bring bread to the table like he said he would. We asked for our salads to come before the entrees, but after an eternal wait, the salads and entrees were brought together. The food was average. Would I go again? Only if there was a long wait at every other restaurant in the area.

This was our second time to this restaurant. The last time we went was in August, My husband and I went on Monday night for dinner. They have a great 1/2 price bottle of wine deal. In addition, they have some great specials. You can get a small salad and a small pizza or small order of pasta for just about $11. Their garlic knots are to die for. They are great to start your meal and also great to dip into the Rosa sauce. We will definitely go back. Their pizza looks very good!

Consistent and good. Nice place to take friends for a good meal in a great location on the lake.
