“Excellent RV Campground near DC and Metro Station”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2011

Stayed here week of July 4th, 2011. The campground was expensive, but worth the price due to the convenience of being close to the metro line to get into DC. The lots were small, but we did not spend a whole lot of time at the campground. The campground was quiet, well maintained, the bathrooms very clean, and hot water for the showers, nice playground area.

The pool area was clean, although the water temp in the larger pool was FREEZING! The pool house was clean and offered a snack bar, small video arcade, showers, hot tub, and outdoor big screen movie theater. The putt putt golf course could use some serious work.

The camp store was OK, your basic supplies and a ton of DC souvenirs. The staff was incredibly helpful. I suggests asking one of the older staff members for assistance. The younger ones are, well, young and not too helpful.

The staff provided us with a ton of information to get from the campground to the metro station, buying metro tickets, and driving ourselves to the metro instead of taking the city bus. There is a city bus that stops at the campground and it will drop you off at the metro station, but we found it more convenient to drive to the metro ourselves. On the bus, you have to stop often, so that adds a good 30+ minutes to your trip downtown, plus the metro ride. We didn't pay to park at the Metro on Sat, Sun, or Mon the 4th. Can't remember about Tues., I wasn't driving!! :-)

The park had everything one would want or need as far as 'rv'g' goes except for internet connection. We were there 3 days and no internet. We used their computers in the office and they weren't much better but at least had a connection. Metro bus made a stop in the park and it took us to the metro rail station at U of MD which was convenient. Only problem was the last metro bus to the RV Park left the station at 10pm - so we had to plan our evenings in DC around the last bus to the park. Would be better if we had our own car of course and could park and ride. We did not tow on this trip. Office staff was friendly and helpful and I am sure caught a lot of flack about the internet so management needs to step up to the plate and change providers. We did not eat in the little grill but looked like most everything was prepared from frozen products - we had ice cream only. Pool was full of kids so did not swim. The fire ring at our space was full of trash when we arrived but the pad was fairly level. We camped here in a motorhome.

Very close to Washington,D.C. The campground was clean and the staff very friendly. They have a nice store/registration area. All the staff knew how to get you around D.C. and the area.Try the Star Cafe near the pool area. Not a bad meal if you don't feel like cooking!(Breakfast, lunch&dinner!) They show a family movie outside of this complex most nights, too. All in all, a really good campground!

We stayed at this campground from July 2nd through July 6th. We had reserved a few weeks in advance as this was the 4th of July weekend. I had reserved and requested a site with some shade but got a pull through as we arrived late in the day on a Saturday. Not knowing what kind of pull-throughs they had, I didn't say a thing, but we got stuck on a lot where we had to share our pic-nic area. The first 2 nights we were there, that wasn't too bad as our neighbors were a tent trailer (and we have an itty bitty trailer: 18 feet). The next 2 nights though, we had a huge 5th wheeler beside us and their awning was over ours. However, most of the back in sites were very nice, and not as close to the site beside them. We also had a fire ring that was for sharing...

Since we weren't there to 'camp' the site wasn't that big a deal though. The campground is close (10 min drive) to College park metro station on the green line. Parking is free on weekends and holidays. We didn't take the bus, but parking was easy, even on a weekday. The subway system is very efficient so the campground was a very good place to stay in that sense.

The amenities at the campground are very clean and well kept. Bathrooms are spotless. Very nice and well equipped laundry room. The staff are very helpful and curteous.

Would I stay here again? Yes, but not if I had a pull-through site. The pull through sites with shared patios and fire rings are the reason why I gave this campground 3 stars. If not, I would of given it a 5.

If you want to save some money while visiting Washington DC, camp out at Cherry Hill Park. It is a very nice campground and you can ride bus from there to get on subway to go to DC. We drove to the subway place to park for $5 all day so we didnt have to worry abt the time to get on the bus. We camped out there for 3 nights. Washington DC takes up a lot of time to walk and see. Some people took bus tour to save energy but it costs $$$. It was a good experience for our kids at age 15, 10, and almost 7. The only negative thing at the campground is that we camped out right next to the interstate, you cant see the cars but you surely can hear them. It was loud even though the night. Hotels in DC are expensive so cant complain. We had a great time....by the way, wear tennis shoes if you plan to walk all day in DC.

We rented one of their trailers and were happy with our choice. It was nice to have air conditioning, a kitchen and a cute deck area. Our two teens loved their little private bedrooms with loft-like beds. Master bedroom was tight, but nice to have queen bed. Very clean kitchen & Bathroom. Tub drain sluggish and some leakage from sliding shower doors. Plenty of fresh clean towels provided. Living room couch fabric very worn and could use a good shampoo or reupholstery. Free wifi, but slow.

CONS:
Sites are very close together
Highway noise
Expensive cafe

PRO:
Close to metro station and DC
On site Bus stop for metro station
Can purchase metro and various tour tickets on site
Helpful staff
Great pool area with lifeguards and game room for the kids
Big laundry area
Pet friendly

NOTE: If you make CHANGES to your reservation, be sure to get confirmation of the change IN WRITING. I had called the day after making our reservation to change the arrival date to a day earlier and the girl on the phone said I was all set. I asked if she was going to send me an updated email and she said it was not needed, that it was all taken care of on their end. I should have insisted on the email. When we arrived, they did not have us down for the correct arrival date. Luckily, the rental was available, but I will never again trust a verbal confirmation.

For same price as a hotel room, we got a little more bedroom privacy for each family member and a big kitchen. As long as they keep up with repairs and maintenance, this place should continue to be a favorite spot among campers.

There isn't tons of privacy at this park as the sites are so close together, but if you don't mind that it's perfect for the person who wNts to visit dc. There is a bus that picks you up or you can drive to the metro station where parking is free on the weekends. You can purchase metro tickets at the store or the station and the helpful staff are really good about telling the best ways to get around. One of the staff even gave me the tip of which metro stop to get off so I wouldn't have to walk all uphill to reach my destination. If you just want to hang at the park there was Lots of things to do, plenty of washers for doing laundry, two pools with lifeguards, a cafe, movies under the stars, the whole bit.
