Description: Our Family has nearly a century old tradition of serving "Serious Barbecue." Andy Sr. Learned his labor of love from his dad, 'Guy Nelson' - Chief Barbecue Man for Limestone County, Alabama. In the 50's, Andy & Betty were not only attending Memphis State, raising a family, and sighting the real Elvis, but they were also developing a BBQ style all their own, integrating the spiciness of Memphis BBQ with the Old Nelson Family tradition. Andy's not famous for his championship years with the Baltimore Colts; he's famous for his hickory smoked BBQ. Ask Andy and he'll tell you that one of the secrets is slow cooking. Our BBQ is smoked many hours over Hickory logs until it falls off the bone, then simmered in our own heirloom sauce. Regularly voted "Baltimore's Best BBQ" by the staff and readers of Baltimore Magazine and the City Paper, this is one "Q" you won't want to miss. So let us take you and your guests down the Ol' Mississippi with great "Q" and maybe a little Elvis background music (streamed from Andy's iPod, of course). We recommend adding some of our Extra Fixin's to compliment your meal. We have been providing the Maryland area residents with the Best BBQ in a family atmosphere for over 30 years. We have been delivering quality BBQ to our local community and have never lost sight of what "The Best Q" means to our family and our guests. When it comes to BBQ, we make sure that everything is always made from scratch and everything always tastes perfect. I guarantee it! -Andy Nelson

Boy, you can really blow by this place if you are not paying attention. Tucked next an old mattress factory and some small business shops, hard to find at speed. Good amount of parking out back considering the size of the establishment.

Order line service was rushed, the lady kept trying to finalize our order while our group was still making their orders known. We actually had to go back to get items that were left off the order, mostly sides. This place is kitschy, a couple houses/trailers cobbled together; tight quarters for any group over four people.

BBQ is fairly good, but nothing to go out of the way for or write home about. Their sauces may shine more than their food. Brisket is too dry. Pulled pork is a bit too thin (sauce) and a bit overly fatty. Buns for the sandwiches are small - platters a better value. Most sides taste from scratch, except the cole slaw. Corn bread has a great look to it, but not much flavor. Can get a bit noisy in here at peak lunchtime.

You can dine in here but the decor is certainly far from fancy - but for take home fantastic ribs or pulled pork you can't beat it. Sides are delicious as well. Their BarBQue sauce is hard to beat as well. You can buy it by the bottle. I often get two full dinners and split it up amoung four. Add dessert and just smile at the compliments.

We go here when we visit the grandkids. It's always busy with a huge variety of BBQ and sides. Owned by a local football legend who still mans the register. Never been disappointed.

The pit beef and pit ham (when they offer it) are nothing short of fantastic. The ribs have a heavy spice rub on them and not to my personal liking. I've had BBQ at catered social functions and it's finger licking good.

Don;t go here if you are trying to impress your boss with elegant surroundings. But if you are in the area and want great barbeque, check it out.

Andy Nelson's (owned by the former Baltimore Colts player) is a self-serve restaurant. You order at a window and take your food to a table. The barbeque is excellent. The service fast. The place is very clean.

Prices are not cheap but reasonable.

I come back regularly when I am in the area and always have an enjoyable meal. Personally I favor the dry-rubbed ribs but everything I've had has been good,

A quirky gem.
