“Good choice near Metro & shopping”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2011

Conveniently located about 3 blocks from the Friendship Heights Metro station, this hotel is a good option for stays in the Chevy Chase - DC area. The lobby was small but had a modern, updated look, with lots of amenities, like a touch-screen guide to restaurants and shopping in the area, a little "convenience shop" with snacks for purchase and a microwave, and computers with free printing for guests. Everyone we encountered - from front desk personnel to cleaning staff - was friendly and helpful. The rooms themselves were on the small side, but efficiently designed: the desk had a movable portion on wheels so that you could customize your workspace, the loveseat tucked into a corner had convenient side tables, and a small (empty!) refrigerator and counter space allowed you to stock up on snacks and make coffee. And within a few minutes' walk you can find high-end shopping (Cartier, Dior) as well as everyday stores (CVS), a Whole Foods Market, and a variety of dining options.
There were a couple negatives, though: The airconditioning unit felt as though it had only two settings: OFF or HIGH; and when on, it made a considerable amount of noise and the blowing was uncomfortably strong at times if you were anywhere nearby. And the bathroom towels were very thin. This might have been part of their environmentally "green" initiative, but the towels just said "budget" while the rest of the hotel felt more upscale.

Family trip to DC to see the museums and zoo. Hotel had a great family special that included metro passes and breakfast. Hotel was very nice and front desk/restaurant staff friendly. Little bit of a walk to metro station but not bad. Lots of nice restaurants within walking distance to hotel. Pool closed a bit too early -8pm...kids would have loved if it had been open later. Room was very nice, clean, comfortable and recently renovated. No complaints at all about our stay at this hotel. We would definitely recommend it and stay there again and I am pretty picky!!!

Had a great two day stay recently. This hotel is in a building that used to be a Holiday Inn. It has been totally rebuilt and they did a very good job. Room was comfortable with all of the conveniences including a refrigerator. Staff is friendly and helpful. I really like the "new" restaurants in the newer and rehabed Courtyards which this one had. Full breakfast was under $10. Parking was $15 which is very reasonable for a DC hotel. Location is convenient to just about anywhere. Metro station is within walking distance if you're headed to downtown DC. My only complaint and why I didn't give an "excellent" rating was the internet service was painfully slow. I tried both wired and wireless. Hopefully this was a fluke because the rest of the experience was great.

Have stayed here twice so far, both times very nice. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are updated, clean and comfortable. The exercise room is very simple but enough for a weekend stay. Only downsides were cheap, low quality shampoo, conditioner, and lotion; and the fact that the on property restaurant is not open for lunch. Hotel overall is highly recommended.

My wife and I decided to stay outside of Washington DC and take the Metro into town because we did not want to hassle with a car. The Marriott is 2 blocks away from the Friendship Heights Metro station and a short 10-15 minute ride into town. The hotel was recently updated, and was located close to malls and great eating places. The only downside was that it did not include breakfast, but there was a Whole Foods grocery store 2 blocks away and we picked up a few breakfast items that we kept in our bedroom small fridge. Overall, we had a great stay and the staff was very friendly. There is a parking lot behind the hotel which is free on weekends (The staff did not tell us about that). Otherwise there is parking in an underground garage that is very convenient and not too expensive.

My husband and I stayed at the Courtyard by Mariott Chevy Chase because he was having medical testing down nearby. The room was quiet, and the staff was very helpful. Because the testing took longer, they even let us stay parked in their garage for a longer amount of time.

This location provides some of the best rates in the DC/Maryland/VA area. That's a primary reason we picked it, plus it's a 3-4 block walk to the Red Line Metro stop. Regarding location, we quickly discovered that it's near one of the best Whole Foods stores, and is near fantastic (upscale) shopping and restaurants. We always felt safe during our 8-night stay.

Courtyard doesn't offer comp breakfast, nor is their restaurant open for lunch. But, they seemed to be relatively busy for dinner. We needed to have dinner there once while confined to our hotel during the height of Hurricane Irene, and we were quite pleased with quality of our food.

Some less than favorite aspects of this Courtyard: front desk staff wasn't consistently friendly or knowledgeable about getting around the DC and surrounding area. A few staff members were great, but overall, I expected better. The towels--terrible. Small and thin. Internet connection--super slow!! We also did not receive replentishments for TP, or shampoo on several occasions--had to go ask for these things.

Will I return? Maybe. The rate is great. But I do have eyes for the Embassy Suites which is just down the street.
