Evergrain (Against the Grain) has been my favorite place to go dice arriving in Kent county. The bread is extremely high quality and they only serve the est coffee they can provide. Te ownership is extremely accommodating and friendly... If you are in Chestertown be sure not to miss this place!

Stumbled onto this place (now called "Evergrain") and enjoyed a fresh piece of quiche and a bowl of barley mushroom soup. Treated myself to a "Nutella latte" which was to die for. Food was tasty but too salty.

Wifi had a password (not advertised as being open or free -- I only got the password because I heard them tell a regular.)

Service was slanted towards folks they seemed to know. As a tourist and potential parent of a Washington College student, I was a little put off. However, the Nutella latte hit the spot and I am feeling more kind towards them. They are worth a repeat trip.

Doug Rae's pride in his work is self-evident and the results are fantastic. They've been a great addition to downtown Chestertown. I wish I could afford to eat here more often!

This is perhaps the only place in Chestertown to get real, delicious breads and baked goods... Everything is lovingly created by the owner, Doug, (who is a lovely guy and may even stop and chat with you!) early in the morning and is fresh and delicious when the doors open. At this stage, the bakery is open everyday (excluding Mondays?), but I beleve that the opening hours may soon be extended...

The menu has recently been extended, and the fare at the bakery now includes soups, pizza-esque breads, scones and pastries. I have tried most things on the menu and have never been disappointed!

If you're thrifty (or a poor college student), there is also a 'day old bread' basket for half price goodies! This is definitely worth a try.

My number one tip: their sun buns are a MUST (and I've heard that the newcomer, the 'stun bun', is a brilliant alternative!). If you're wondering what a 'sun bun' is, imagine the most delicious croissant-type pastry covered in cinnamon and sugar then formed into a perfectly wound bun.... If you're in Chestertown, stop by and give Evergrain a try, I can assure you that you won't be disappointed!

Small town charm with a beautiful long handmade wooden table, true work of art and craftsmanship. Friendly staff and clean facilities. Nice place to sit a spell and enjoy a beverage and sandwich or other baked goody. A good place to watch the world go by on mainStreet Chestertown, MD
