Jennings has a real local Catonsville feel to it. If you are lucky enough to get Gretta serving you, you are guaranteed to have a good time. The food has always been good, the portions are large, the prices are affordable, and the staff is really friendly. The atmosphere is dark and there is a stuffed squirrel by the bathroom, but that is all part of this place's nostalgic charm. If you are looking for a place to relax, enjoy some comfort food, and have a beer or two, I recommend that you check it out.

The food is real and the place is exactly what a neighbor grill should be. This is not a cookie cutter restaurant. I try to visit Jennings Café every time I get back to the Catonsville area.

Last night I was treated by a family member to a birthday meal. I chose an entree off the "special" menu, the fried oyster sandwich. For years I was a regular customer at Jennings and then my outings there became less and less frequent, but not because of the food. Sometimes the smoke was hard to take so I would go elsewhere. I always remember it as a great neighborhood place to have a drink at the bar or get a bite to eat. I was shocked last night after a long interval of eating there. The oysters I had were few and far between, dried out and completely tasteless, like eating cardboard. The batter was dark, almost burnt and tasted like they had been cooked earlier and then reheated. It was the most pathetic excuse for an oyster sandwich that I've ever known. What really bothers me is that it cost $12! It came with french fries but I requested cole slaw, which was good like I remembered. One would think entrees from the today's special menu would indeed be very good. I dared not complain because I didn't want to make my son feel bad since he was treating me, but If this is any indication of the quality of food they are serving there now I won't go back again.

We have been here a few times and Ive never been appalled but never really impressed. The food is OK and the decor is dark and outdated. The crab fluff is not bad and the service was good. There are better establishments in the area that I would recommend before Jennings.

Jennings Cafe is a delightful hometown treasure. The staff is as family-like friendly as you can get and the french fries are out of this world. The waitresses don't bother to right down your order, because the are so truly interested in what you say that they actually remember it all (and haven't gotten anything wrong yet!) Their seafood is always fresh and delicious and we just love it there. What can I say it's is a gem.
Only downfall: This ISN'T a smoke-free environment though, but the smoke is light.
