We got here late in the evening and was met by our inkeepers with a hug. Our room the Magnolia site was awsome. Very antiquey. No DVD player but we had our laptop for movies we bought. We bought wines we had collected so we eac cold try . Be was very comfy. Breakfast was wonderful...No diet here! We enjoyed so much we are making plans for 2 night stay in spring. We went to Synergy healing arts for massage and facial and hot tub. You gotta go!

Our hosts were VERY welcoming and accommodating; VERY considerate, available at a moment's notice without being intrusive. Of the 5 B&Bs we've stayed at, this was the very best room arrangement in that the upstairs Sunny Meadows room was on a quiet corner, separated by a central staircase from the other upstairs rooms. Private bathroom outside the room was so close you practically stepped into it (its convenient location did not take away from the feeling of privacy). From inside the room, a door (that you could lock) opened into a cosy Hospitality room complete with small refrigerator with freezer, microwave, mugs, glasses, teabags, instant hot chocolate and coffee packets, sweeteners & creamer, along with a small sink for cleanup. Pleasantly decorated bathroom was meticulously CLEAN -- subtle bleach smell on towels assured you they were sanitary :)..room felt cheerfully and freshly vacuumed, meticulously dusted, and laundered. Ceiling fan available; adequate lighting. Unlike some historic-paper-thin-no-insulaton wall B&Bs we've stayed at, the few sounds we heard were pleasantly muffled. This was the first B&B we've stayed in that offered a private thermostat to control your room heat. The privately controlled radiator heating system occasionally gave off a comforting subdued sizzle and burp that delightfully added to the historic feel :). Compared to many of the B&B hosts I've met, our hosts were exceptional (especially during this economic season) in generously providing ample heating for an upstairs room. And compared to other B&Bs and many, many hotels we've stayed at, it was a delightful surprise to find the mattress on the king size bed exceptionally comfortable. Ample supply of warm beddings. Heads up to electronic geeks: bring a power strip , as the number of wall outlets is understandably historic :). Outlet in bathroom. Lovely oak table to comfortably set laptops or enjoy a cozy meal. Did not take advantage of our hosts' knowledge and advice about the area/sightseeing, etc as the purpose of our visit was to attend a funeral but it was evident our hosts were well acquainted with local points of historical interest. Enjoyed 2 breakfasts - generous servings of crepes, scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, fruit, blueberry buckle, oj, cran apple juice, coffee, variety of teas, all tastefully & artistically arranged. The Cascade Inn has obviously discovered the secret to a successful blending of the aesthetics of historical romance with the practicalities of modern convenience and comfort! Give Him due glory! ;)

This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and we weren't sure what to expect. We were beyond pleased. The inn is so very quaint and the drive to the inn was very relaxing and scenic, but yet very convenient to get to. Duane and Jan greeted us upon arrival. They were so warm and friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the Sunny Meadow Suite and were pleasantly surprised at how large the room was. It was very cozy and comfortable. We spent time most of our free time at the inn sitting on the back porch on the porch swing. The breakfasts were so yummy and cooked to our exact specifications. The inn was big enough to keep to ourselves and never see another guest if we so chose, but we did choose to eat breakfast with the other guests and were glad we did. We met some very interesting people and enjoyed the breakfast conversations. The rate was beyond reasonable for the Gettysburg area. They had pre-printed directions to anywhere we needed to go, and Duane was very informative about the Gettysburg area and even lent us a CD to take with us on a driving tour of the park. They made us feel like part of their family while at the same time meeting our every need. We are already discussing how we can get away and spend another weekend there. We highly recommend a vist here!

This was the best B&B experience we've had, starting the moment we walked in the door and were greeted by Duane and Jan. They are the nicest, warmest people you could ever meet and treated us more like family than guests at their inn. Our room was charmingly decorated and very comfortable; we even had our own refrigerator. The inn itself is lovely, and you really get a sense of the history of the place. Breakfast was extraordinary; just thinking about the caramelized bacon is making me hungry, and the French toast was out of this world. Since it is situated close to the Gettysburg and Antietam battlefields, it's the perfect inn for history buffs. When you factor in the peaceful atmosphere and the friendly, genuine personalities of Duane and Jan, it's the perfect inn for anyone. The only downside to our experience was that we couldn't stay longer - but we will definitely be back!

I stayed at the Cascade Inn for the first time in November. Since i've returned home (near Chicago) I've told countless people about the wonderful hosts, Duane and Jan! They are 2 of the nicest people that I've ever met! Most of my contact was with Duane because Jan works Monday-Friday and I was there during the week. Duane was very concerned that everything was fine for his guests and made a delicious breakfast each morning and left evening snacks. He is such a kind, caring and hospitable person that you can't help but feel completely welcome! My room was lovely and very comfortable. I was surprised at how absolutely beautiful that part of Maryland is! i visited Antietam Battlefield. Also, the proximity of Gettysburg makes this a great place for Civil War "buffs!"
Bed and breakfasts are always my first choice when I travel and I have stayed in so many over the years, that I've lost count of the number! There are some that I would never return to and some that I really look forward to returning to again. This is definitely one that falls in the latter category. Even if the house wasn't as nice as it is, it would be worth returning just to visit with the wonderful hosts! I definitely do plan on staying again!

We were able to spend only a couple of nights with Duane and Jan this time (we'd been there for a week a few years ago), but their excellence in accommodations and hospitality, if anything, has only improved. We cannot say emphatically enough that this is the outstanding place to stay, whether for nearby Gettysburg or other battlefield sites (this home was origainally built by Col. Taylor, Chief of Staff to Robert E. Lee!), or as a quiet jump-off point for D. C., or just to hike the Blue Ridge, rest and relax, and eat the fabulously prepared breakfasts. We feel that our hosts have become lifelong friends, and in reading other reviews that feeling may not be all that unique to just us. The breakfasts are events that Duane begins to prepare in the wee hours of the morning, custom to time and individual tastes, and he serves them in the beautifully furnished dining room. The beautiful photos on their website do not begin to do the individually styled suites justice. The Cascade Inn will always be our destination when we travel to that part of the country! November 24-26, 2006. This was our first B&B, and our 17th Anniversary. We stayed in the Rose Garden Suite for 2 nights, which was absolutely perfect! The 2-person jacuzzi, the real fireplace, the side porch with a gorgeous view, plus the cozy queen-sized bed was just delightful! We would loved to have stayed longer, but....

Never having stayed at a B&B before, we were not sure just what to expect; didn't know if we'd have the privacy we'd want, or if our time would be "planned-out", not necessarily to our liking. But, to our delight and surprise, we were asked when we wanted breakfast (a serious highlight of each day!) and if they could help us with any plans we had for hiking or antiquing or whatever. Duane and Jan were the nicest hosts, and we quickly became friends -- there is NO Doubt that we will visit them again, probably for our 18th Anniversary, if not before!

They recommended fine places for a romantic anniversary dinner (their recommendations were right on-track, too), and when our stay was over, we truly were sad to leave! I believe we have made some new friends in Duane and Jan, and while I don't know if we'll ever visit another B&B, I do know we will definitely visit the Cascade Inn again and again! Couldn't be happier!

  • Liked — The beautiful Rose Garden Suite, plus Duane and Jan the owners
  • Disliked — They didn't serve a spectacular dinner (to match the spectacular breakfast)!
