“Best Wedding Ever”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

If you are planning a wedding, make sure to look into the Hyatt Chesapeake. My new wife and I had our event on Saturday July, 19th, and it was absolutely perfect. Jordan in valet started us off with a fantastic welcome. He organized his guys into a pit crew which helped us with everything we needed, not just on the arrival but throughout the entire weekend. He was an ambassador of the resort.

Every interaction we had with every staff member on the property was a pleasant one. The front desk staff was fantastic for us and all of our attendees, never having any trouble helping us with whatever we needed. But to drop a few names; Lynda our banquet captain was on top of everything for each of our rehearsal dinner, the reception and our Sunday brunch. Mark, the valet manager was our own personal chauffeur. Jason in recreation made sure everyone was having a good time by the pool. Frank at Dock's Bar kept the drinks flowing. Most of all, Kate Hopkins, our event manager put everything together so perfectly starting from when we met with her back in December. Our wedding and all of the events were as stress free as possible. The fact that my mother was relatively calm the whole time was the most shocking of all. Kate had it handled. Thanks to Harry as well for his assistance behind the scenes.

The property is gorgeous, we have countless stunning photos. The food and amenities are wonderful, but the staff really made our day outstanding. Thank you!

Green Features: I'm pretty sure this hotel is the most eco-friendly in all of Maryland. one example is the toilets are low-flow, high efficiency in each room.

I stayed here for a couple nights with the wife and kid just to get away for a couple days. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and the room we stayed in was modern and pristine. Really, it was one of the best sleeps I ever had in a hotel. The pools were wonderful and lit-up beautifully at nighttime. We felt at peace just walking the grounds. It is a very tranquil and well-manicured place.

However, I can't say I would stay again. Not only is the base room price already pretty high, there is a resort fee and everything there is really, really expensive. Just a couple small portions of food will set you back some $30-$40. I ended up just feeling gouged there. Also, I get that this place is trying to be classy; however, late at night it was impossible to find food there. Would it kill them to add a couple of snack vending machines?

Again, really nice place but be prepared to spend A LOT of money there just for basic things.

The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay is a very nice hotel located near many of the best Eastern Shore attractions. It is located in Cambridge, Md, a town on the rebound. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and expansive which is great because the hotel is located along a road with many strip malls. None of the strip malls can be seen from the hotel......just beautiful scenery.
This is a great hotel for families as they have several pools - one that shows movies at night. The restaurants are not all open at the same time which is a bit limiting. Did have great meals at the hotel.....breakfast buffet is great.
This hotel does allow dogs so expect to see and hear them. Our floor had several which did bark on occasion.

Room Tip: I asked for and paid more for a room with a view. Rooms are at an angle to the view so I would not r...

Have stayed here a few times before, for business in winter. First time in season with pool open and kids activities going everywhere. It was fantastic. We were with another couple and their two boys - kids could play, swim, explore beach, look for critters, water slide, while we relaxed. Rented boat and cruised the river, swam. Can't wait to head back.

Room Tip: Reserve in advance!

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay for the PBA Family Law Section's Summer Meeting. That means attending scheduled Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses in the hotel's conference rooms (which I am pretty sure the PBA paid a chunk of change to rent). I requested a late check out for the final morning of my stay as there are CLE classes scheduled until 11:45 a.m., whereas the standard checkout for the Hyatt is 11 a.m. When I requested a late check out to make this workable within temporal reality, I was told by the front desk guy that there was "no such thing as a late check out." He then proceeded to speak to me like a child by explaining that new guests will be coming in tomorrow. Seriously!? Somebody better alert every other hotel I have ever stayed at, because I have requested late check outs at all of them and, despite all of them having a constantly revolving occupancy of new guests (the essence of the hotel business) they were able to accommodate this very simple request. I guess maybe I am a little extra salty over this incompetence / failure to accommodate us, because this place charges $300/night for the rooms and adds a $20 resort fee on top of that. While the facilities are decent, underline that, "decent", not spectacular, hedging along "mediocre at best", this place is WAY overpriced for what you get (double beds, not queens, eco toilets that barely flush, etc.) and they obviously have very little regard for guests who are here for a seminar, because their checkout timing is inconsistent with the itinerary of the meetings they are hosting! I will never come back. There are hotels with better service and amenities for less money...they might even give you a late check out.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Green Features: Being eco friendly is great and all, but if the toilets don't flush, that is a crappy problem.

We greatly value guest feedback. Availability for late check-out is dependent on the resort’s occupancy. If the hotel is fully booked the following evening, late check-out may not be possible in order for our 400 rooms to be cleaned and prepared for 4pm check-in. Please know the resort team always does its best to accommodate these requests. That being said, we sincerely apologize for the service you experienced. This feedback will be shared with our management team so that proper steps are taken. We hope to have the opportunity to provide a four diamond Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay experience to you in the near future.

Trying to be 5 star, but way too many mistakes. As a result, seriously overpriced for what you get. Do bring a child - it feels strange not to have one in tow since the whole experience is designed for children including huge pictures in the elevators telling you to be quiet after 9:00 PM (they do not work, there were still kids running the halls).

Since there is almost nothing to do in Cambridge, and just one fine dining restaurant and one good Chinese one, the resort will be the focus of a stay. (Of course, St. Michaels is less than a 30 minute drive and there is lots to do there.) A stay at the Hyatt is best for parents with young kids who can enjoy many diversions, assuming they get deeply discounted rooms and are willing to pay top dollar for food.

A few details, starting with the good and ok aspects:

two great outdoor pools (one for kids) and another one indoors;
a superb spa with at least two outstanding masseuses (book early and be prepared to pay a lot);
a primitive indoor/outdoor movie theater used for kids' films;
architecture that looks like a college dorm room up close (but nice from a distance);
nice interiors, lobbies, etc. but the main restaurant is huge;
grounds are generally nice but require more maintenance (fallen leaves in the fountain, etc.), a long dock great for sunsets but in need of many repairs;

and ending with the really not good:

an outdoor fireplace that sends huge clouds of smoke in your face if you are nearby or downwind;
main front door too filthy to even touch;
heavily corroded brass on doors (sometimes dented); and
security gate falling off of its hinges.

The beaches are 100-200 ft. long at best, and 8-20 feet wide depending on the tide. They can be reserved for parties, and so may not even be available. Check for jelly fish after July 4th!

The prices for everything extra from rental equipment to food are as high as the most expensive resorts.

The breakfast is buffet, with a few really nice extras but very small selection of boring fruit. Vastly overpriced if not included in your room rate. Service is just ok.

There is only self parking, and it is quite a hike. If the hotel is busy, there are not enough spaces - try parking just before 4:00 PM when the first shift of hotel workers leaves.

There were tour buses allowed to idle at the front until after 10:30, creating quite a noise - this might have been related to the weddings and not a common problem, but no effort was made to correct it.

You will not get a river view on a busy weekend, since they are all blocked for favored guests. But the backside view is good, if you are not on top of the front entrance and tour buses.

We started off on a bad note when we waited 5 hours for a king bed, and when we asked then we were told a room with two doubles had been "blocked" for us. The desk clerk from India at the Diamond check in line tried to convince us to take two doubles and it sounded like a bum rush scene from the Very Best Marigold Hotel, but in the end (after a 5:30 hour wait) she found a room and gave us a $50 credit.

There was another Indian clerk who could not have been nicer, describing the weddings. There were two Indian weddings while we were there, so the area Indian community seems to be a marketing focus. There were lost of great Indian outfits - a highlight of the stay.

Room Tip: Stay away from the entrance on back side rooms unless you like to open the door and hear the fountai...

Green Features: Only a token effort, all of which is self serving (like limiting changes of sheets). It has a golf course, so by definition it is not environmentally friendly.

Thank you very much for providing feedback on your stay at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed Sago Spa & Salon, as well as the outdoor pools. We take pride in being a family friendly resort, but also offer a range of activities for couples too. We apologize that you were disappointed in elements of your stay. Waterview rooms must be requested when booking to guarantee availability. Our resort pricing falls within the average for a Four Diamond destination. Again, we appreciate your thoughts.

My husband and I got away from DC for a few days to play golf. The pictures looked like it was on the Chesapeake Bay but it was really on the Choptank River, which I thought was a little misleading. The hotel was good/average, the golf course was good/average, food was average, and the spa was average. Getting a tee time was easy as we were there mid-week, which was a plus. I got a manicure/pedicure and it was very average, nothing special. The wait staff in the restaurants had difficulty understanding English? Food at golf course was awful.
The good news: the hotel was quiet at night and the pools looked great. The last night we ate at a restaurant that was outstanding, and I wish we had eaten there the previous night. Blue Point Provision, easy walk on the hotel grounds, fast service, great fish. If you have low expectations, you will love this "resort."
