“Great hotel and great help!”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We stayed at the Hyatt for our engagement recently, and it was great. Everything from the club room to the lobby was n great condition and the food/snacks were great! The service was great as well. The concierges were a great help with helping me to plan some engagement stuff. Mary and Brooke were instrumental over the phone and provided great service and recommendations, while Gina (from Pittsburgh) actually prepared the room for us with champagne and roses petals, and turn down service, great attitude and could really trust them! I had a slight issue with the use of the bikes there, but it was promptly taken care of by John (the marina director/recreation) and he took care of us. The only other recommendation I would make is that the infinity pool be for adults only rather than only half of the pool, this way the kids can still have the other two pools to play in and the adults can relax without having to worry about the kids. Great service, great scenery, great food, great time! We will be back!

The Chesapeake Hyatt was a great getaway for me and my family, with a few notable flaws. The pools were amazing, but although one is indoors, it's not grounded and is frequently closed when there are nearby thunderstorms (rain = no pool for you). The restaurants were overpriced with mediocre service. The WiFi was horrible; my iOS devices could not maintain a connection and the hotel caps you at a paltry 200 MB (forget Netflix). The TV offered only standard def channels on an HD set (blurry much?). My own phone barely caught two bars on AT&T's network, indoors.

If it wasn't for the setting and the pools, I would not recommend this hotel. If you have kids, or if you're a golfer, it's a great place. If not, look elsewhere.

My husband and I went there to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We were looking for somewhere quiet and romantic. To our dismay, the place was over-run with children!!
Let me say that this is not the fault of the resort, I should have done more research. This is a nice place, just not what we were looking for.
Pros: the resort gave us an upgrade to a walk out balcony room- unfortunately, there isn't any privacy on the balcony as you can see your neighbors through the metal screen. The resort sent sparkling wine and fruit to our room for our anniversary- this was a very nice gesture.
Cons:The room was nothing special, I felt that it was very over-priced at $400 per night! I've stayed in nicer rooms for less than half of the price. I'm sure that they are appealing to families and the activities that they include. The restaurant downstairs (I can't remember the name) was not good either. The service was very poor and $47 for breakfast was certainly over-priced for eggs!
We also visited the spa while we were there. I was not particularly impressed with it either. We were the last appointment of the evening. Someone from the spa did call the evening before and explained that we should come in early to take advantage of the amenities that they offered there, but we were certainly rushed to get out after our service. They did provide a pass for us to return the next day, if we wanted.
We have traveled quite a bit throughout the Caribbean staying at all-inclusive (adult-only) resorts. I knew when I booked this that it was not going to be the same, but I was hoping for some similarities. Unfortunately, I came away very disappointed. Just not what we were looking for.

Thanks so much for the feedback. Our team appreciates all the positive feedback. Please know our prices fall within the average of a four-diamond resort, and that we’ll be reviewing these comments with our management team. Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay does offer areas and activities that are adults-only. We hope to welcome you back for a future visit.

We stayed at the Hyatt for a wedding with a block rate. The room was fine, spa is lovely, the service at the pool left much to be desired. They were also out of a lot of items at noon on a Saturday. I'd question coming here as opposed to a lesser expensive hotel in St. Michaels or Kent Island if I was looking for a getaway.

My husband and I stayed here in February of 2013, and enjoyed it very much. Very nice restaurant, very clean. Weather was very cooperative and unseasonably warm, so we were able to walk around quite a bit and enjoyed walking back from the restaurant instead of using the shuttle. Room was not quite as big as I expected, but it was fine. Very clean, very nice. Even though the weekend was busy, we checked in on Saturday, and by Sunday night the hot tub was empty except for us, the pool was empty, the movie was playing on the big screen, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Bartenders and wait staff were friendly, loved the upper level rocking chairs, and had a great time.

Room Tip: Would strongly suggest going off season for a better rate, and also having the stay include a Sunday...

Thank you so much for the great feedback about Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay and Bluepoint Provision Company. Please note that our prices fall within the average range for a four-diamond property, and that the resort offers several special travel deals throughout the year. We hope to provide a relaxing getaway again very soon.

This hotel is a dream come true for kids of all ages. We have 5 and 7 year old boys and traveled with a family who has a 2 year old and a 5 year old girl. All the children had a blast. They used the outdoor pools extensively; wore out the water slide; crowded out the hot tub; hammered away at ping pong and pool in the game room and in the basement; played impromptu baseball and soccer games with hitherto unknown children on the front lawn; tried to catch crabs off the pier; played chess with pieces the size of infants; roasted marshmallows on a roaring fire under an open air chimney stack with a view of the infiniti pool and the Chesapeake Bay; and enjoyed a game of night-time miniature golf. We probably only experienced a fraction of the activities that are available to children. We never played volleyball or tennis or went on bike rides. We barely used the indoor pool, where they offer up movies on a large screen TV at night.

But for adults -- even adults who are primarily concerned with distracting their children -- this is an inadequate hotel, nowhere close to a 4 Diamond property or worth the $ 400.00 per night price tag. The rooms, while clean, are spartan and dated. The towels are rough; TV is analog with poor quality images. There was poor attention to detail when it comes to maintenance and decor, as if someone wanted to cut corners and asked "will someone really complain if I don't do this? If not, I'm not going to do it." For example, grout was missing or slightly blackened between the tiles in the bathroom. The vents were dusty. The ice bucket is made of cheap plastic and the plastic liners don't fit. The pull out bed in the sofa doesn't have sheets. The towels, while clean, are rough and get water logged very quickly. The toilet flushes poorly. This may seem like nitpicking, but the overall impression is of a decent, airport hotel, not a 5-star resort property where the room invites you back as much as the surroundings. (The exception to the rule is the spa, which is excellent, seems recently updated, and has very good, professional, experienced staff -- at least that was the experience for my wife and me).

More seriously, the food is very poor quality and the service at the restaurants is horrendous. It's as if the wait staff, which is young and apparently inexperienced, have just given up. At the poolside, a waiter was extremely rude when we asked whether the restaurant serving food on the terrace offered the same food as the poolside bar (answer is yes, but he did not give us a straight answer for several minutes, trying to push us to order from him). On the terrace outside the indoor pool, we waited for 45 minutes for our food only to be told that they had run out of some of the dishes we ordered and that we would have to order again. Five different waiters brought food to our table; most of it belonged to other tables. We could hear people complaining about the poolside restaurants throughout our trip. The Bluepoint restaurant, which is a 10 minute walk away, provided much better service and a great view of the river, but poor food.

The walls between the rooms are extremely thin. We could hear footsteps and ordinary conversations from neighboring rooms. We downloaded a white noise app to drown out the sound. For the first time in our lives we saw prominently displayed signs at a hotel asking people to keep the noise down after 9 pm because kids might already be asleep -- signs that were essential but failed to serve a purpose because most people ignored them and the walls were so think that even quiet people would wake up their neighbors.

In conclusion, if I were a child, I would love this place. It'd be the next best thing to an amusement park. If I were an adult without children, I would leave quickly because the place is overrun with kids (many of whom are badly behaved) and what it offers to adults is sub-par. As an adult with young children, I probably won't come back. Sure, there's lots of stuff to keep the kids occupied, but the lack of sleep, luxury, quality food, and quality service are really deal killers. Luckily, the concierge is excellent and helped us get to some great eating places off the property -- Suicide Bridge Restaurant (on the Choptank and has great crabs); High Spot and Stoked in Cambridge; heard that Bon Poplar, a small French place, is also excellent. Also, the Blackwater Refuge is fantastic: lots of osprey nests and some bald eagles along with interesting terrestrial animals like terrapins.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterview room overlooking the pools & river (not just golf course and river). Ask fo...

We are thrilled to hear that the kids had a fabulous time at the resort, but regret to hear of the adults’ dissatisfaction with the restaurants, room and service. Please know we take this feedback seriously and are reviewing it with the management team to make sure that corrective steps are taken. We hope to have another opportunity to provide a four-diamond experience for you in the near future.

My husband and I came here for our 30th wedding anniversary, came here for the 25th. While overall it is a very lovely place, with views to die for, it has its issues. Main one would be the facility in itself needs a good cleaning, not the rooms per say, we had breakfast in the main dinning room and looking out the small window you could see small bird feathers and droppings all over the window. The balcony we had, which if you can pay for the sit out balcony do it, has a wasp nest under the rail. Check in staff was very accommodating, service staff needs a bit more training, not always helpful or easy to understand. Additionally some sort of recognition from the hotel from the hotel of our milestone would have been nice, how much does a bottle of champagne cost???

Room Tip: Rooms with the "sit out" not walk out balconies are worth it.
