“Reasonable Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

This hotel was fine for an overnight stay. Clean but basic. Location is a bit out of town between a Burger King and a Chinese restaurant which sets the tone. Breakfast was basic but fine. The door of our room did not lock correctly.

We stayed recently, with a block of 10 rooms for a youth sports tournament. Our group always chooses Holiday Inn because they are convenient, clean and friendly. Unfortunately, this hotel did not meet any of those three expectations.

The hotel was not clean. If you walked down the halls in your bare feet, they were filthy when you returned to your room. Our bathroom wall had a bloodstain on it, which was rather disgusting. The toilet paper holder fell out of the wall, and we constantly needed a plunger because the toilets had NO water pressure to flush. Three other people in our group were also in constant need of a plunger. The "business center" (a desk in the lobby) keyboard did not have a functioning space bar, and many of the other keys did not work. One person in our group had to move rooms because the air conditioning did not work, and another had to move twice because the tv didn't work in one room and the toilet would not flush in the other.

When we checked in, our entire stay was immediately charged to the room, which is not typical. Usually the card information is saved for the check-out date. When asked about this, the staff did not have an answer. The person who set up our block is checking with Holiday Inn to find out why this was done.

There was NEVER a visible person at the front desk. When there were problems, we often stood at the desk for 10 minutes before anyone appeared. One morning, when my husband waited for an employee to appear, the woman approached him and said "Yes?" She acted as if he was bothering her. I believe the correct approach would have been "Can I help you?". This same employee was just miserable for the entire week we were there, an extremely unhappy person.

Our key cards constantly stopped working, and so we, along with the other members of our group, made dozens of trips to the front desk to ask for the cards to be reactivated. Taking trips in the elevator were an adventure, as it would often move up and down a few inches when it arrived to the desired floor.

We received a discounted rate of $136 a night, which is already a bit steep for a HI Express. When I saw that the usual rate for the hotel, posted on the back of each door, was $179 a night, I almost died. I don't know what kind of hotel they think they have, but it is a stretch to even ask $100 a night to stay here.

The bottom line? If area hotels were not booked because of youth sports tournaments in the area, I would have canceled my entire stay in a heartbeat. The hotel needs a serious deep cleaning and several repairs. Some staffing changes would probably be wise as well.

After giving Holiday Inn thousands of dollars over the last two years for travel sports, I am extremely disappointed in this location. I am preparing a long email for corporate headquarters right now.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.

Went fishing on the pier and checked in about 5 in the morning. It took the receptionist about 15 minutes to get my keys to me. It semes like I woke her up from a deep restful sleep and she could not focus. I was tired also as so my wife as she became irritated I had to ask her to calm down. The phone in the room did not work and the tv remote was missing. All we did was sleep then left. It really left something to be desired. Like a hello when you are patronizing your favorite chain of hotels.

Great location if traveling along Rt. 50. Staff was freindly and nice. Modern looking building, roomy lobby, clean rooms, and a decent breakfast included. Burger King is next door,Walmart very close if needed. Overall nice place if in need of a place to stay. Will stop again when coming though.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Ocean City, MD. The hotel could use a few updates. Also it could be a bit cleaner. The first thing I notice about a hotel is if it's clean. well As soon as we walked in the room we saw that there were marks all over the walls and water marks on the wall paper in the bathroom. A first inpression is everything, how hard could it really be to scrub the walls down everyonce in awhile? Also, There was an awful mildew odor through the hallways and our room. all of our things smelt like mildew after being there for one night. Very over priced for the quality of this hotel. Front desk Staff was very unfriendly. We had a late arrival and when we walked in the front desk clerk did not say one word to us the entire time we were checking in. what happened to customer service? I mean i know it was late but a simple "Hi" would have been nice.

Rooms were clean and staff was friendly. Convenient location right off the main road there with a WalMart right next door and a movie theater. Staff had great suggestions for eating (Jimmy & Sook's was good). For Eastern Shore ambiance and views, suggest you head over to the Hyatt down the street and have drinks at the restaurant at the end of the property with views of the water.

Amenities were good and would stay here again if in the area.

We booked one of their jacuzzi rooms and checked in at 7 PM. My wife found the bathroom to be dirty with hairs on the floor near the toilet and we were fortunate to be put in another room. The tub was huge, easily big enough for both of us, and the bed was comfortable. They have a good sized TV in the room and the air conditioner was efficient and quiet. I did not like the pool because of the heavy chlorine. The whole room wreaked of it. The breakfast was typical of these kinds of chains but there was little in the way of fruit. Still pretty nice at no extra charge. They allowed us to keep our bikes in the room which was a plus. Our purpose was to ride some of the back roads south of town. Otherwise, I did not care for Cambridge as a tourist destination.
