First impressions were good, we were able to check in early and were greated warmly by the front desk. However, it rapidly went down hill from there. Having been told we were upgraded to a larger room, I cannot imagine the closets they must be squeezing people into. The room was small (despite being told it was one of their larger rooms), we had 4 people staying in the room, with only 2 towels and 1 cup, so if you want coffee, be prepared to take turns. Likewise with the shower (although they did provide extra towels when we asked). The bathroom was in need of renovation and was only ok in terms of cleanliness. Not dirty as such, but definitely in need of a good scrub. Breakfast was terrible, overpriced at $16 per head for a buffet. We asked at check in what time breakfast was served until, we were told 10.30am. We arrived just before 9.30am to find the staff packing up the dining room, nobody offered to seat us, or even confirm whether breakfast was still being served, so we awkwardly sat ourselves. The toaster was unplugged, and the tables were not set up for customers. After picking over what was left at the buffet and taking a seat, the staff started to pack up breakfast, removing the food while we were still eating and making much noise in the process, just to make sure we knew they were unhappy with our presence. When we asked the one member of staff available for help, she said breakfast finished at 10am. She was unable to answer why they were packing up well before 10am when they could see we were still trying to eat, or answer why we were told 10.30am at check-in. Considering the terrible atmosphere and the disappearing buffet, we left a $1 tip, just so they knew that we hadn't forgotten, but were unhappy. We were then chased when we tried to leave the dining room and told that the tip HAS TO BE at least 15%. We reminded the waitress that the size of the tip depends on the service and as we had not been treated as guests (paying $16 per head!) we did not feel a tip was deserved. To be fair, the waitress did then help us obtain a refund for the breakfast from the front desk but I would not waste my time at this hotel, the only thing going for it is its location. Considering the size of the room, the need for renovation, and the price of valet parking, this hotel was overpriced for the area.
I was traveling for pleasure on this occasion, but travel reguarly for business too. If you are a business traveler, be warned that the rooms contain no fridges or kitchen facilities...stick with the Marriott chain.
