This would be an excellent restaurant, if it were located at or near the beach. However, for an in-town location, it leaves something to be desired. Starting with the clam chowder, it was tasty but very watery. All chowders do not need to be thick and creamy, but this was lacking also in taste. The gulf shrimp were good and tasty as was the crab cake BLT, but can't help thinking that the overall quality of the food was just average. Put this place in Surfside in Nantucket and it would rate an excellent, in Bethesda, just average.

Kitschy and fun decor resembles a Maine restaurant. There is outside seating, when weather permits. The lobster rolls are excellent and very buttery.

Driving through Bethesda, we decided to try Freddy's and skip our favorite Sala Thai:) this time. We had the clambake (dissappointing) and we had the fried clams (good). I also ordered their own concoction of Bloody Mary (not good at all --it is watered down something with a pinkish color). However, the baked beet salad was really good--it had crumbed blue cheese on a thin layer of sliced endive.

Perfect beachfront feel in Bethesda.

The Good:
The lobster roll was delicious. The lobster was tender, buttery, sweet delicious. I though I didnt like lobster - found out I do.

The burger - well done burger was juicy and filling.

The drinks were delicious but low on alcohol.

The clam chowder had a good flavor but it was way too watery...maybe they were out of cream. The chowder had nice chunks of crab and potatoes but was just too thin.

The ketchup containers could use a cleaning.
The restaurant was out of crab meat which was very disappointing but oh well, next time. I will definitely return.

Lunch wa $60 excluding tip for 2 drinks, bowl of clam chowder, lobster roll and burger. Seems a bit pricey for lunch but we did get the packed with meat lobster roll.
Overall this was a very good dining experience. Service was good.

This place was GREAT a year ago. Chris the bartender made the place come alive and had the kind of personality that drew people in and made strangers become friends. The lobster was more consistenly good then too. On my last (and I do mean last) trip there, the warm roll was acidic and mustardy. The new bartenders are ok (guys) to horrible (girls) but no personality and they are usually more interested in operating their phones then checking in. Sometimes they disappear for ten minutes at a time or more. Prices have also skyrocketed, with at least four raises in prices for the Wednesday lobster special in a year. What was so promising turns out to be more like Steamers down the street - a tasteless waste of time with no personality. If you are in the neigborhood and love craft beer, stop in - the beer selection remains the one saving grace.
